The HR director at my brother's work made him take down his Dem stickers.
Apparently some people found them offensive. :wtf: There were two small stickers on the wall in his office. The first one was an Al Franken for senate sticker. The second one was a Minnesota DFL sticker. He's had them up for about six months now, and finally today, his supervisor made him take them down. My brother is pissed. Today he noticed a window on the door leading into the manufacturing area has some easter stickers (including a crucifix). He just emailed his supervisor and told him to remove them because he finds them offensive.

I would've done the same if I was in his situation.

1. While I agree with your bothers sentiments, I would try and keep politics
out of the office. Also, making a deal about religious stickers is probably not going to help matters either.

Though I still have the front pages of the Washington Post on my desk from the two days after the Nov. 06 elections shouting that the Dems have taken over the House and Senate!

:oh well:

:hi:

2. Yeah, but I forgot to mention...
that Republican stickers (and shirts) get to stay up (and on people). I should have mentioned that in my OP.

3. If that's the case, he should leave the stickers up and sue if he's fired.
A boss can make rules that no stickers are allowed, but allowing one side and suppressing the other is forbidden. It's akin to forcing an employee to vote a certain way.

4. In that case he does have a legitimate complaint.
Either allow all politics or none. I found none the best, as politics does not belong in the workplace.

6. that makes it a whole different issue !!!
A company should have a clear policy. Either no political stickers and attire or allow it, but not just ban one political partys stickers and attire.

5. While I think you are right about making a deal

about religious stickers is not going to help matters, I also think it is important for those of us on the left to stand up for our rights. I just posted this link in another thread but I think it is relevant here, too:

http://www.alternet.org/democracy/79776/ (I am linking to part III - there are links to parts I and II there)

The conservatives have used our unwillingness to rock the boat, to be obnoxious, to complain against us for 30 years while rocking the boat, being obnoxious, and complaining loudly for the same period of time. It is part of the reason we are in this hellish nightmare of a political situation right now. If we are to be silenced in the workplace, the other side needs to be silenced as well.
