1. My dear undeterred...
The scientific stuff I read says this is a lot of clap-trap...

And I agree...

I'd avoid it if I were you...

2. Its not something I'd try
But we have a lot of people into 'alternative therapies' around here so I certainly hear about it.

16. No way, but I did see a video of a porn star who...
had hers done.

She was so proud that now she was "beautiful ALL over."

4. I have a friend who's into that. Really.
She's quite the evangelist. And no, there is NO way to be an evangelist for this without the TMI meter going off the scale. :eyes:

5. Yeah..I met a woman on a short term assignment
and we had a few things in common. Then she started talking about Colon Cleansing. And when she found out I didn't practice this she spent the next 3 weeks trying to persuade me, bringing me literature, etc. I felt like saying: DO I LOOK LIKE I AM CONSTIPATED? CAN WE TALK ABOUT SOMETHING BESIDES BOWELS?

8. I had a colonoscopy last year.
I was glad the results were normal but I didn't enjoy the prep, having my bowel completely empty was no particular thrill, and my gastroenterologist told me my bowels were quite boring.

17. my gastroenterologist told me my bowels were stunningly picture perfect.
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 07:12 AM by NuttyFluffers
no polyps, beautiful color, nice moisture level, remarkably clean compared to other patients, etc. outside of a few hemorrhoids they said my lower intestine was textbook. and they just had a woman of 26 come in earlier that day who glowed of health, but they found so many polyps and cancerous tissue that she was in advanced stage colon cancer with only months to live.

oh, and i do colon cleansing. edit: i don't do this flushing procedure though. i incorporate high fiber and liver cleanses and they've worked remarkably well, literally! just ask my previous gastroenterologist, might even still have the video...

come join us! think of the first laxative as a mildly discomforting sacrament. you get to graduate to high fiber foods and volumes of delicious water to flush your system, kinda like communion.

:D

7. Other...
it is necessary for medical procedures like colonoscopy

it is recommended for certain fetishes and decidedly nonmedical procedures

people who advocate it for its own beneficial properties have issues they really should deal with

10. Yes, the one I haven't updated in a long time...
when Google bought Blogger, they fooled around with the login procedure and I couldn't get on for a while. Then a few things changed and I got sidetracked while figuring it out.

I really should update it-- there's a lot I've got lying around.

13. You said it
Why waste money on "colon cleansing"? For those of us with IBS, a healthy serving of broccoli will do it.

Do what? Believe me, you don't want to know!

15. I used to work with an older man who swore by it...
Said it gave him "terrific energy".

I told him that the terrific energy he felt was due to his body working overtime trying to compensate for all the necessary bacteria he'd just flushed from his colon...plus he'd just needlessly irritated a very large and very sensitive tissue mass in his body. OF COURSE he was going to feel zingy all over...

He just stared back at me, blankly.

19. Yep, you need those bacteria. Antibiotics+yogurt= :
I recently did a course of an antibiotic for an upper respiratory infection.
The doc said it would kill the bad stuff, and also the good stuff in your gut.
"Take a couple of tablespoons of yogurt 2 or 3 times a day to help replenish the bacteria and you probably won't get the runs."
It worked.

20. Having had this done for a colonoscopy recently
I think the people who do it voluntarily are out of their effing minds..Its number 2 (ha ha) on my list of unpleasant things I had had done medically behind a bone marrow biopsy.
