Seriously, this is some FUCKED UP SHIT, y'all. The Fed was not designed to prop up investment lenders!

Sorry to bring this crap in here, I've just been reading about it for a couple of hours and I'm feeling a little dazed...

1. ABOUT to collapse?
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 12:00 PM by Tyler Durden
If you've been reading about it, then you know it's on life support, teetering on the edge of the Grand Canyon.

You cannot run deficit borrowing like we have when you're the world's largest economy. It's gaming the entire world economy.

When the BIG CRASH happens, they'll hear it on planets near Alpha Centauri, and that's across light years of vacuum.

I just keep buying canned goods, bottled water, and ammo.

3. I'm not an economics expert, so maybe you can answer a question...
With the Fed taking on all this unstable debt that it was not designed to do, I mean seriously, doesn't it seem like we could have the kind of Depression-era results where the banks go under, people lose their life's savings, and we have food lines and tent cities? I am not a tin-foil hat person and I don't generally make dire predictions, but this seems really, REALLY bad.

And what you're talking about, gaming the world economy, is already happened. See the news from Britain today? Their largest bank is going to STOP OFFERING MORTGAGES. That's right, just STOP OFFERING THEM ALTOGETHER. Which means good credit risks won't be able to get credit either...which is like the whole definition of the beginning of a Depression, right? I don't know very much about economics as I said, so feel free to set me straight if I have that wrong.

The same thing is happening in France, by the way. And the dollar's at an all-time low, and crude is insane...airlines are grounding plane after plane because they can't afford fuel costs...I just...this seems BAD.

6. I'm no expert, but it seems that everything but the stock market crash has happened.
Since the Market has become a Rich Man's rigged lottery, I don't know if the Dow makes any difference anymore. I give it about 6 months to a year.

21. Yes, that can happen as the FED can't do much more.
The deficit numbers are atrocious, interest rates so low foreign markets won't buy our securites, there will be more foreclosures, more layoffs, etc.

4. I've been watching wild Dow swings since Chimp came into office, BUT
The Fed didn't start doing this kind of risky shit until fairly recently. What could have possessed them to start taking on investment lender debt?? How can this possibly be good for the economy, long-term? I am so bad with economics I may be wrong, but it seems like SUCH a non-viable choice! Am I wrong?

5. I'm in the middle of Zinn's People's History of the US
One thing I've noticed so far, is that this country has had a lot of economic crises. We're taught in school about the Great Depression as if that were the only one we'd ever had. In truth, there are major depressions every 40 years or so, and the Great Depression wasn't as big as some of them. There was a depression starting tin the late 1870's that continued almost until the turn of the 20th century, as an example. and the really funny thing is, when you look at the root causes of every one of them, they are always about Capital trying to find a way to stiff Labor, and the resulting restriction on cash flow through the system. Just like now.

7. That's why we're getting stimulus checks.
It'll make everything okay.

:sarcasm:

ANYwho, there are a couple fixes that could really help stabilize the economy but our government sucks far too much to even consider them. Our leaders are too beholden to big business, and big business is to beholden to stockholders.

Greed, baby!

All the money we're saving is going to be worth a wheelbarrow full of rubles when we get over there...and their economy isn't the healthiest, either.

Lord in heaven, when will we be rid of the stench of that cocksucker?

16. The Fed is in panic mode...
an emergency rate cut on a SUNDAY??

They are just trying to prop up the economy by using smoke and mirrors until the next Prez steps in.

Also, the fed should not be in the business of bailing out investment banks.

My opinion...we are horribly screwn.
