Poll question: Cheating
I turned this into a poll so people can anonymously answer. When you were in school, did you ever cheat? I remember one year about 50% of our class did in a math class. The teacher was, quite seriously, blinder than a bat: she had to get 6" from the blackboard to write on it, and the class was often filled with paper airplanes and spit balls as a result. We really weren't learning anything. She was also our homeroom teacher, and we found out where she kept her tests--she gave the same ones year after year. The answers were with them, so we conveniently knew all the answers. One of the students told her parents, and we were all turned in. Since it was a majority of the students in the class, none of us could be punished individually, but we had to take another test.

The following year, that teacher ended up with cataract surgery, and about 5 years later, she retired. She was already ancient, so it wasn't surprising.

But yes--I cheated in high school, at least in this one class.

1. yep
but 14 years later when I went to college, I discovered that teachers allowed crib sheets, and you had to turn them in with your tests

Holy deflated standards, Batman

4. My favorite classes
were those we would walk into and the teacher would immediately announce, "We're having an open-book test." Being quick on the draw made those tests rather easy to get through.

2. I'll answer this. Yes, more than once and I think was manic/hypomanic every time. It's not
an excuse, I know, but those were the circumstances.

5. Yeah
Know what you mean, though. It's always good to know we might not be totally responsible for our behavior. ;)

7. Hell
We all get caught eventually, I think. It's only as way older adults that we can appreciate both sides of the issue. When I think of all the advantages kids have going in today, with calculators, computers, and all the technology at their fingertips, I have to wonder how much of the basic stuff they really know. Calculators were the stuff of dreams when I was in school, more than 30 years ago--engineers used those "pocket slide rulers" in their shirt pockets--the sure sign of nerdiness back then. I went to an all girls high school (it integrated in my last year of school), so we didn't see too many slide rulers in shirt pockets: maybe in their purses or something. :)

9. I worked in the Xerox room at school
and my AP biology teacher brought in one of our tests for me to make copies. Oh god, moral dilemma! I ended up giving a copy to a couple of my friends in class but I didn't take one for myself because I figured it would look really, really bad if all of a sudden I got an A when I had been getting C's. So I guess it wasn't really morality that stopped me it was the fear of not getting away with it.

11. Never cheated in High School; did have a few formulas I could never
remember on a bookmark in a math class in college - no actual answers to specific questions, but the formulas for shit like how to figure the radius of a circle or some such shit.
