last night.
I was out at a bar watching my friend's band play, when the subject of Journey came up and I referenced what I have always termed "the carnie love song."
Apparently, I was referring to "Faithfully." I have since discerned that around the age of twelve or so, I perceived for some reason that the song was about a carnival employee longing for a missed lover. I have apparently clung to this interpretation for nearly two decades, despite its complete inaccuracy.
My friend insisted that I was nuts and during a band break, he actually managed to gain access to a copy of the song, played it, and laughed at me. There was, in fact, an analogous reference to "circus life," but nothing pertaining to carnivals. For the duration of the night, I was furiously mocked by band members and now no one believes anything I say.
Journey sucks.
