Have you ever noticed...

that in movies, especially old ones, that are supposed to take place in a foreign setting, everyone speaks in a British accent? Even if where it's taking place somewhere that's nowhere near England or even Europe?

I was watching The Ten Commandments last night, and couldn't help thinking, "Um... isn't Egypt kind of far away from England?"

1. Enemy at the Gates was like that

Russians with English accents. I guess filmmakers think any other accent may be too foreign and make the average american's head explode. But since most of us are willfully ignorant of other cultures almost nobody bats an eye.

2. The new one wasn't like that.

They actually spoke Russian. And there were subtitles. I love it when they let a foreign language be spoken properly. I don't even mind subtitles.

3. Depends on where/who films it I think

I watched the movie "Gallipoli" recently (about Australians +Brits in a battle in WWI) and what do you know, the Brits sounded like Brits and the Aussies like Aussies!
But don't even get me started on the old westerns though with the "native americans" and what they sounded like...ugh.:eyes:
