3. I left Sunrise (near Ft. Laud) a year and a half ago and moved to Omaha
There are people I love in Florida, I miss easy access to Disneyworld, and the weather is better.

Things I do not miss about Florida:

My homeowners insurance ($4500 there vs. $650 here)
My auto insurance (half here what it was there)
My smaller house that cost 2x as much money when I sold in 2006 (I sold a 4/2 with a 2 car garage, a pool, and about 1700 sf under air for $340K, and bought a 4/2.5 with 2400 sf under air, a fireplace, and a 3 car garage for $165K)
My higher utility bills
The bad driving
The schools that are only focused on teaching kids how to pass the FCATS
The exceptionally rude people
Green space
The lack of bike trails
94 degree heat from April to October
Hurricanes

4. good luck, sister....
Personally, I think Florida sucks, ESPECIALLY the gold coast stretch between west palm beach and miami. Oh my that sucks hard.

Just my opinion though-- DUers who love their gold coast condo in Boynton Beach or Boca Raton need not take offense-- they can have it with my ardent blessing, and be confident they'll never have mike_c as an obnoxious neighbor!

7. Good for you.
I lived in South Florida most of my life. I finally left in 1989 and moved here to the Atlanta area. I have never regretted it. My daughter lives in Hollywood, FL and she knows I won't go back down there to visit, so she has to come up here.

28. Hey, just a poi-poundin' minute there!
We have 43 out of 51 state reps Dem, 21 to 4 in the Senate, all four in Congress Dem -- and, oh yes, palm trees.

Ironically, I just came across an intriguing opportunity in "the Hub" this morning myself. It is kind of a long shot, but... oh yes, I'm not really a kama'aina (local person) but grew up in Conn., or as it is also known, "Massachusetts Jr." :-)

Or are getting out. I moved away from the Banana Republic that is the Tri-County area (Palm Beach, Broward & Miami Dade) and I love St Lucie County. Much better for my sanity. If we didn't have good jobs, I think we would get out as well!!!

Like the unbearably hot and humid weather, and lots of religiously insane fundies and Bush cronies.

40. Florida
Fark.com uses this to mark stories from there. It is the only state with it's own tag.

A quick view of Fark reveales the following stories with the tag...

Me & my shadow...BAM BAM BAM
If you’re banging your student, it would be wise if you didn’t let his parents see him pull his pants up while getting out of your car (w/ very hittable mugshot)
"Happy Easter, kid. Here's an invite to a strip club party and the number of good bail bondsman"
Eighty-three percent of noise complaints to Tampa International Airport last year came from one man, who spends his days logging the aircraft flying over his house. "Look, I know I sound like a lunatic. But I'm not"
Ahhh Easter. A perfectly beautiful day to riot at the flea market
Woman refuses to repay ex $1.5M in divorce settlement, becomes fugitive. Then, even for Florida, things get weird

Check it out... http://www.fark.com/

I'm up in Minnesota, formally of Connecticut. Both places much saner for the most part. :-)
