1. My dear UTUSN...
We did a tour with the Stanford Travel Study Group in Greece, and other eastern Mediteranean spots...

Greece is very beautiful, and of course, full of history...

We enjoyed it a lot...

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by your question...

Hope this helps!

2. You are SO sweet AS ALWAYS to respond.
To explain:

* Is it safe?

* Is a tour boring?

* Do they let me go off on my own to get tipsy?

* Can I have fun while being taken care of?

3. Aw, thanks, sweetie!
Yes, it is safe...

Good tours are not boring!

Stanford's tours are always interesting, because they send along a couple of professors to explain just what you're seeing, plus the local guides are super too!

There is some free time, but not much...

Oh, yes! IMHO, you have more fun while being taken care of...

Because you don't have to worry about logistics...where to sleep, where to eat...

Plus, they carry your luggage for you!

5. I've been to Korfu, Rhodes, and Athens....
...and they're all pretty sweet. I have a soft spot in my heart for korfu though.

6. i'm curious to know about independent travel
thinking of going there but no interest in a tour

any non-tour experiences out there?

i'm actually interested in all reports, tour or non-tour, after all, i'll probably go many of the same places a tour would go just at my own poky pace

10. I was there for a week several years ago.
of course went to Athens, which could be a whole trip in itself. then we rented a car and drove over to Epidaurus and Nafplio. it was beautiful and we found it easy to get around by car. we then flew to Santorini which was amazingly beautiful. Akrotiri on Santorini is a wonderful historic site.

we saw people being shuffled around by buses on tours and I pitied them. we had much more freedom and could take our time.

just my opinion.

good luck to both of you searching for info on Greece! and happy travels!

8. i've never been to greece, however
i did part of my trip to italy with this tour company that also offers tours in greece. i highly recommend them. they were excellent and our tour guide was great! we got a lot of free time, but also some amazing time touring the area with our guide, and it was not boring even for a minute!
