Speaking of veggie burgers
Ever since I started my weight loss "journey," I have discovered the joys of meatless eating. I am not becoming a vegetarian. But I have cut back my meat consumption a lot. I do it, in part, to cut out fat and calories. But I also find that I like some of those veggie products. Boca burgers have become a staple of my diet.

I'll probably never totally give up meat. But it's good to know that there are alternatives.

1. Their Italian Sausages are pretty good too.
I have also had good luck with Morningstar Farms breakfast sausage and sausage crumbles( they make really good sausage balls at Christmas). I think it's a good idea to cut back on meat. I've cut it out completely but I know that's not the best choice for everyone.

2. My wife buys some kind of soy sausage on a tube
I think it's called "Gimme Lean." It's pretty good. I've also tried the Morningstar Farms stuff -- also good.

16. I never thought of using the crumbles for sausage balls
Hmmmm... Since they don't have the fat content of ground pork sausage, what do you do to help bind them together?

4. I don't know if Boca burgers are all that good for a diet
but they're definitely delicious. :9

Of course, if you're comparing them to hamburger then almost anything else is good for your diet.

5. The vegan ones are very low-cal
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 08:16 PM by LuckyTheDog
The patties come to one Weight Watchers point each.

Oddly enough, the organic Boca burgers have a lot more fat and more calories than the original ones.

6. Cool. That's good to know.

I only eat the vegan originals. Usually with a pesto spread and crushed olives. :)

8. I like Quorn brand "chicken"
The nuggets and southwestern wings are really good. I don't know if they're really healthy though.

13. Have you tried the naked cutlets?
I've actually made fried "Chicken" out of them...they can be used as a replacement for chicken breast in just about any recipe. I even made Quorn Kiev with them and it turned out pretty good.

11. I'm still eating a little meat, too
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 08:42 PM by hippywife
but I love Morningstar Farms Chik'n Nuggets, Quorn Naked Chik'n Cutlets, and Amy's California Burgers. I just used the MSF nuggets to make chicken and rice with Thai peanut sauce last night and it was very good. I've made them in buffalo sauce and added them to pasta with Melissa's Sun-dried Tomato Pesto. They're even darn tasty plain. The Quorn Naked Cutlets are good on sandwiches and chopped up in a pot pie, too. All very, very good. The MSF crumbles make a good chili, too. Got a bag of Quorn crumbles to try in chili next. :hi:

12. Cutting back meat consumption is quite the positive if looking at weight loss.
And no, this isn't agendaspeak.

Fact is, meat is garbage. Absolute rubbish. If more folks kept in mind that food is simply fuel for the body, more folks would find success. Losing weight is fine-tuning the diet among other things. Calorie value is what it is.

Cutting back will probably also be kind to your cholesterol numbers as well.

I hope you find a great deal of success on your weight loss journey, regardless of how much meat you eat.
