Car insurance Rant
I'm up for renewal and they're upping my insurance from $103 to $117. It said it was because of my credit rating, because I applied for and bought a house in the last year! :wtf:

My insurance has never been late. My home mortgage has never been late. I've never been late on a car payment. The last accident I had on my record was back in 1998. (I had one in 2000, from someone running a red light) No traffic tickets either.

What crap. And it's with Progressive. I'm going to switch now and go with Farmers who my homeowners is through since that will be cheaper.

3. I know!
The only difference is I applied for, got and have been current on a mortgage since last June. That's the only thing that has changed.

2. More and more of these fucking criminal companies
are making up shit excuses for taking more money. x(

One company will say, "well, you sneezed last week so you're a higher risk now." And everyone will jump on the band wagon and raise your rates for everything else.

Unfortunately, the candidates who might actually try to put a stop to that kind of predatory garbage dropped out of the presidential race already. :(

6. And you'll notice that if you opt for monthly payments
it will NOT be reflected on your credit report.

We'll use it to hurt you, but not to help you.

Love,

Your Car Insurance Company Bastards

7. Well, it's just that I'm never late on anything
I spend well within my means. They even said that I'm at a good level of spending based on available credit. I pay off my credit cards each month.

I just don't get it.

8. I have nothing bad to say about Farmers or Progressive
Progressive prices based on credit rating. If you bought a home with a mortgage, your credit score probably red-flagged on debt ratio -- hence the price change. I've got to say, for $14 bucks, I wouldn't switch. I've had Progressive, and their claims handling is superb.

BUT, as you point out -- they don't write homeowners (yet -- I've heard it's coming). Farmers has good service, very reasonable rates, and you can indeed get a homeowners discount.

9. But it didn't effect my credit score
About 3 months after the close I was thinking about trading my car in, and I pulled my credit. My score had gone up.

My mortgage is only $150/month than I was spending on rent, but still very very much within my means.

Also my insurance was renewed at the end of September and it didn't effect it then, but it effects it now. That's what's making me pissy about it.

15. I actually went back to Progressive because they were so damned cheap!
I had Geico and then AAA, but Progressive was 20% cheaper than anyone else this year, so I went back to them!

Their rate structures are so weird. I think they just make shit up.
