1. How busy is your schedule?
Will you have any time to meet some local DUers? :)

any suggestions for the *must see* things for the small amount of free time i have?

3. Yes, but the MUST SEE things take at least a week.
:(

I wish you could stay longer!

The Staten Island Ferry is popular because it's free and it runs 24/7. You get an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline from the water, and you get to cruise by the Statue of Liberty.

I get really incredibly annoyed with all the tourists, but I promise I'll make an exception if you're one of them. :P

And if you can swing it, you definitely should try some restaurants for types of food you can't get at home. :9

5. It takes half an hour in each direction.
It runs every half hour for most of the day, 3 times per hour during rush hours, and every hour after midnight.

heck, if i get into NYU i'll be living there! ;) :hi:

7. Interview where?
Top of Empire State gives great view of the 'world,' if you're in the area and weather is good.

8. I'd agree with Thom on the ferry
there are so many places and things to see in NYC, that it's probably best to do something like a ferry just to get a perspective on it all... maybe when you come back again in the future, you'll have a better idea of places you'd want to visit & things you'd want to see, but would need more time to really appreciate: Broadway, the museums, 5th avenue, Statue of Liberty, etc.

9. Interviewing at one of the excellent colleges? NYU? Columbia? Barnard? MSM?
Since you only have the one day and not a lot of time, I think the best thing you could do is take in a museum - my choice would be MOMA, since I love modern art; but if you want to see a variety of art, architecture, artifacts, and whatnot of all human history, the Metropolitan Museum is worth doing; or if you're into history and science, the Museum of Natural Science and the Planetarium are brilliant.

someone comes to NYC who wants to see museums. The Met and Ellis Island are my two favorite museums. :)

17. Coming to check out NYU? Ask me anything
I went to NYU, as you know.

My son is going to NYU, I may have mentioned that.

I lived for ten years in NYU housing near Washington Square Park.

I'm available for tours.

27. No, you do not have enough time to check out the "campus", because NYU has no campus.
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 06:08 PM by Genevieve
Really, there is NO campus at all --
therefore, the entire city would be your campus. So much nicer than a campus with borders!
You can ask me anything (if you want) about NYU.

33. I bet you will get in..
i went to NYU,
undergrad and Graduate School. The buildings are scattered all over downtown, the majority of them in the Village. I loved it so much that I ended up moving to Greenwich Village permanently. Being in an environment like this - New York City, with NO borders is an education in itself. I wouldn't have done it any other way.
Good Luck!

21. Anyway for you to get to see a show
on one of the nights you're there? So many great shows right now. My youngest daughter, about the same age as you actually, only heard good things about Spring Awakening. She spent a full month in NYC last summer, staying at Julliard, and loves it. Here's a link about the show if you curious and can find the time. Either way enjoy..

It's not exactly Bohemia anymore, but it's what makes city life urbane.

It's so fantastic to watch as you grow into a young woman. I hope your interview goes very well and that you end up precisely where your heart lies.

Best,
