I used to be terrified of that, but having my blood drawn once a week, even once a month rapidly cured me of that. Now I can watch them put the needle in and watch the blood flow even, without flinching. Thats the ONE postive of having a chronic blood disorder...No more phobia!:hi:

131. I've only had my blood tested twice, I think
but the first time is what led to my "phobia" of it, because it happened shortly after my dad almost died of complications due to a genetic mutation...that those tests subsequently showed that I have. :( So, yeah, the second time when I was having dizzy spells and had to get my blood tested was when I really realized how much that freaked me out...not fun. :scared:

Christian Szell: Is it safe?

Babe: Tell me what the "it" refers to.

Christian Szell: Is it safe?

Babe: Yes, it's safe, it's very safe, it's so safe you wouldn't believe it.

Christian Szell: Is it safe?

Babe: No. It's not safe, it's... very dangerous, be careful.

That makes me sad, angry, and every other negative emotion but FEAR. I refuse to fear the government. I will stand defiantly in the face of domination and fight for the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

There, deep breath....................I feel better now.

85. I share yours, KW!
And I'm looking forward (?) to another routine one in the not-too distant future.

I'm requesting another doctor to do it, because my transplant doc, cool as he is, hurt me a like a bitch last time!

Then there's the waiting for results. . .

There's a woman doctor there who is supposed to be the best at this. I also had one done once by another doctor-- it hurt barely more than an injection. I don't know what my regular doc does wrong, but it kills!

It wasn't painful really, but VERY uncomfortable. They gave me like 6 grains of morphine before so that may have helped.

Now THAT sounds like a solution! All I get is a little Lidocaine, which does not penetrate very far.

92. 1981. The doctor said, "You may experience some deep pain".
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 04:30 PM by gwbsamoron
It hurt, but was not as bad as other medical procedures. (The "fixed" sigmoidoscopy was the worst. Flexible sigmoidoscopy was next. Colonoscopy was bad, but the euphoria of the drugs almost compensated for the discomfort - mostly forgotten - of the procedure). The doctor said I was very brave during the bone marry biopsy, but I thought it just didn't hurt that bad.

95. Whenever an employer says the phrase "We need more flexibility"
In the academic world that always means fewer full-time professors and more poorly paid adjuncts, fewer tenure-track jobs, and more administrators to make sure that everything stays "flexible."

In the business world, it means that the employees will be screwed over in any number of creative ways: firings, cutbacks in hours or wages, less generous benefits (termed "new, exciting benefits"), removal of perks (no more free coffee), and compulsory overtime.

98. Every corporation that bandied about the phrase, "Work Smarter, Not Harder"
was always on the verge of laying off about half the staff, and thus encumbering the rest of the poor saps left behind with their original job descriptions plus the added work of one who was just let go.

Good luck to you. You are in my thoughts.

100. I have had them too.
I just had a particularly harrowing one, the doctor that gave it to me did not believe in sedation or anesthetic...It was one of the worst experiences of my life.

I am fine, now. I have been cancer free for almost 21 years.

105. Just to answer your question, for me it would be my dad saying that
his cancer had come back, or my mother telling me.

That is the real fear I know right now. It's not really a miracle that he is in remission; it will only be a miracle if he stays in remission. I'm terrified beyond words that he won't stay in remission. I can't even deal with the reality of that, or of losing him.

106. Spinal tap...
I've had viral meningitis twice and spinal taps both times. The first spinal tap apparently left me with a lot of calcification around my spine. So, the second time I needed it done, they stuck me a dozen times and could not get the needle in. Eventually I had to go to radiology so the radiologist could do it during an x-ray. I told them to let me die - obviously they did not listen.

I stopped taking the pill months ago.

Moments after completing the buyout of MSNBC, Media mogul Rupert Murdoch fired longtime voice of reason Keith Olberman... Olberman's show "countdown" will be replaced with a new show called "freeping" starring Ann Coulter, and Tucker Carlson.

Much like a kid waiting until the last day of school to punch a kid he doesn't like, George W. Bush has decided to launch a nuclear attack against Iran on his last day in office, leaving his successor to clean up the mess.

Trust me.

I just watched one of those reality emergency room shows on Discover and saw an episode where some poor guy feel off a ladder and was impaled on a very woody bush -- he appeared at the ER with 4' of 3" diameter branch shoved up his rectum. He had to be cut off the bush by emergency responders. :scared:

The branch exited his rectum and went up through his abdominal cavity, almost to his heart. Unbelieveably, the branch injured none of his internal organs -- just his rectum. He was good as new in three weeks.

129. I wish I WERE just jesting...
But all the things I'm reading indicate that barley and hops crops could be in big trouble. The microbreweries are already being hit. And have you noticed the spike in beer prices?

It ain't just because of increased fuel costs.

I know whereof I speak; I am a home brewer, and the reason I only make low-hopped beers like barley wine's and wee heavies now is because of the obsecene prices for fresh hops.
