1. She's unbelievable.
She was so athletic. I saw the backflips and the amazingly high jumps.

Unfortunately, in figure skating, the women are not supposed to sweat and be athletic. Now, how you can hurl yourself into the air, spin, come down and stop yourself, and not break everything in your body, without being highly athletic,
I DO NOT KNOW.

Damn hypocrites with impossible standards for "ladylike" behavior.

4. I don't know why she didn't get higher rankings... she had the technical and artistic parts down pat
And interesting programs to boot.

6. She was a great skater. A few bits of trivia:
Before skating, she was in gymnastics, and was the World Junior Tumbling Champion in 1986.
For many, many years she never cut her hair even once. Don't know if that's still true today.
Her (adoptive) mother is the very definition of "Rink Mom From Hell." She would answer questions for Surya in interviews. She was extremely creepy (the mother). Georges and Suzanne Bonaly adopted Surya after Surya was born in Nice, France. But for a few years they were telling everyone that Surya was born in Reunion. Surya's birth parents are from Reunion, but Surya wasn't born there.
After backflips were banned in competitive skating, Surya continued to do them in practice sessions, much to the consternation of the officials. I believe she also did one in the "exhibition" show after the competition ended in either the 1992 or 1994 Olympics.
Really a great skater, but was frequently criticized by commentators for merely skating from jump to jump instead of blending all the elements together to create an artistic program.

She danced, or skated, to her own drummer. She was her own unique self.
