6. i actually like dave matthews band
nice chill out music. then again i have a very wide range in musical taste.

i've noticed a lot of people here hate the band.. not sure why. guess it is just the olive garden of music, lol.

11. I do too , wife hates them
She says it reminds her of the Dead. She HATES the dead.

And yet she knew I was a Deadhead when we married.
I understand how people could not like either band btw.

12. "I take thee, Deadhead....."
Musical taste is weird. I like alot of different things. I like the Dave Matthews Band. The only music my husband can't stand is my Leonard Cohen music. When I play it, he thinks I'm trying to get him so depressed he'll throw himself out the window.

8. I'm really not into DMB
I don't know what they've done to expand or influence rock n' roll. I don't really have a very high opinion of the RnRHOF. Seems pretty self-indulgent and gone a little to clean and corporate looking.

14. Absolutely. Face it haters....
DMB has been the biggest band in the country for 15 years. Their sound is copied every single day by some band. Hate all you want but they are freaking great to see live. Different songs every night (even though it is never a completely different set)long shows, great musisicanship and they are very very very active in many progressive causes. Not to mention there are TONS of Hotties (both male and female) at their shows. For a lot of people Dave is the gateway band to more jammy type of music.

First time I saw themw as in 93 when they opened for Phish. Blew me away. So did Phish. I have seen DMB at least 20 times since. last time was for free in GGPark with Carlos Santana sitting in for a long time.

17. I'm with you Bennyboy. Though I never really cared for their "hits", seeing them live was awesome!
Excellent musicianship, especially the drummer. Saw them during the Vote for Change Tour in 2004 and have been a fan ever since! :toast:

18. "Dave is the gateway band to more jammy type of music"
And I think that is the problem for most of us. Jam bands, in many of our opinions, are lame as balls.

15. Why not - The fact that Madonna got in before Peter Gabriel
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 02:19 PM by Mike Daniels
shows that the HOF is now more about inducting artists that will bring in crowds vs. honoring artistic merit or influence.

A common sticking point with certain music fans is the absence of any representation of the progressive/art rock genre. I'll concede a lot of progressive/art rock bands were dreck. However, the blanket ban the HOF has apparently put on the genre keeps out bands that truly deserve to be in there such as King Crimson (a band of true musicians that reinvented itself every few years more drastically than Madonna ever did) and Roxy Music (to which the entire new wave movement (good and bad) owes some sort of debt either stylistically or musically).

16. Nope.
Their sound is so painfully ordinary and Abercrombie/Fitch whitebread, just like The Barenaked Ladies. Yet they'll probably both get in before anyone in the progressive rock genre will, so what the hell?

23. I quite enjoyed them when I first heard them
But I haven't wanted to listen to them in quite some time. They have some good songs. Those jazzy mirrored sax-and-bass lines were pretty appealing to me, those little pop-jazz riffs.

Not quite what I would call legendary, though. Still, look at some of the awful stuff they've inducted into the Hall. I won't name names, but sheesh. The Hall is a total joke.

24. DMB: I Don't Get It
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 08:32 PM by musette_sf
i have friends, yea, even family, who are crazy for DMB. one friend plans a road trip every summer to hit select DMB show venues around the country. i just got his schedule for this year: Saratoga, Gorge, and three days at the Greek.

but i just don't get it.

i'm okay on the jam band stuff in small doses and as background music. but i just do not get DMB.

on edit: i can watch and listen to vids/tapes of even the most mediocre Dead show with varying degrees of pleasure. but DMB.... meh.
