Are there any airbrush artists here?
I'm thinking of trying out the airbrush technique. I, of course, would like to pick up a double action gravity feed. I have no idea what brands are the best. I know Aztec, Badger and Iwata are the big three. But, does anyone here have any favorites? And, of course, compressors are an issue also. I would like to get a setup for under 300 dollars if possible.
I hope someone here has some insight on this topic, because I'm feeling a little bit like a deer in the headlights right now.

1. I see people are reading this post.
But so far no replies. I'll just give it a bump and then call it a day. I may just buy an inexpensive (cheap) setup at first and then see about trading up as I gain experience.

Thanks everyone.

2. Sorry, I read it this morning right before I had to bolt for work...
I'm no airbrush whiz, but I've been very happy over the years with Paasche.

You can pick up a single action siphon airbrush like the Paasche H or HS for under $30 new.

After you get a little experience, and decide it's what you like doing, then move to a double action like the VL or VLS. (I have been using a VL for years and love it.)

The only real advantage you get with a gravity feed is you can do a *slightly* finer line and run a little less air pressure for the fluid you're spraying. Unless you're doing it for a living, save the extra $$$ for now and just get the feel of airbrushing.

As cheap as new good quality siphon feed units are, stay away from eBay and used units...often they haven't been maintained or cleaned properly, and it's more expensive and frustrating to rebuild a damaged gun as it is to buy a new one.

Two online merchants I can recommentd:

Dixie Art & Airbrush

Bear Air

3. Thank you very much for your reply!
I received a very similar answer from someone on a "art" blog! I think I will take your advice.

Once again thank you.
