Mom and I will have to get your suggestions for somewhere for us to meet up and the best time to do so(us rural alabama folk are out of our element ). Somewhere affordable and good! ;)

We will be staying on 30th Street and Lexington Avenue.

:bounce:

1. Meeting at your hotel would be pretty easy.
There is a Lexington Avenue subway line. (The 4, 5 and 6 trains)

And you're right near a lot of very good very inexpensive restaurants. :9

Um, inexpensive by NYC standards. Y'all from Alabama might have a bit of sticker shock seeing that $15-25 per person is considered cheap.

3. actually we have those here too in causal but nice place
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 09:59 PM by Ava
but we do have "country cooking" places that are 5 to 10 bucks per person, lol. :D then again nothing beats homecooked country cookin ;)
We are staying at the ramada inn.

btw, we decided to pay for an extra night so that we have two nights and two and a half days to see the city. we figured that while we were already going to be there, we should go ahead and see the city. ;)

7. That's awesome!
I hope you're planning to spend at least one full day in museums.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the best art museum for everything except modern art.

The Museum of Natural History is the place to go for dinosaurs and anthropology and botany and zoology. And the Hayden Planitarium. You can't miss the tour of the galaxy!

The Cloisters is the place to go for mideaval christian iconography.

The Guggenheim is the place to go for modern art.

If you don't have tickets to a broadway show you can do what locals do. Wait in line to see what tickets you can get at a discount same day at the TKTS booth. You don't get a lot of choices, but you get to see great stuff cheaply because they're undersold for a show.

Woo Hoo! I hope you get to see and do a lot of stuff! :woohoo:

8. how long does it typically take to wait in line?
if it is going to take a great deal of time, then we will have to just do it another time.

9. Not long at all.
I think the discount tickets go on sale an hour or two before the shows all start. Some days you'll wait an hour, but other days there isn't a line at all. So you wait in line for a little bit and then head to the theater for the show. :)

I haven't done this because I used to be able to get half price tickets through work.

But I think most of the people I know in NYC who attend shows regularly get their tickets this way.

20. Think about going to Off-Broadway or Off Off Broadway
Seeing a play in a small theatre or studio can be great.

13. When I lived in CT, I would go to NYC several times a month and
stand in the TKTS line. Saw some amazing shows that way and cheap!

Now, they're a client of mine. Which is great, except that I don't live anywhere near NYC. LOL.

33. Belvedere Italian Restaurant
My boss thinks he's been there. If it's the same place then he says they had pretty good food.

If you like Italian food then there are two places I'd love to take you. I can pick one for our meetup.

There is an area with a bunch of Indian and Pakistani restaurants near your hotel too.

24. Thom,
I ate cheaper and better food in NYC over Christmas than here. The corner Deli/Store was fabulous!!
It was wonderful and very affordable. You guys don't realize that inflation has caught up everywhere !!

Rent...however ...that is another story ;)

4. Gonna be tough to get New Yorkers to eat supper at 4:30 pm.

Sorry, just making fun of your country rubeness, which though you are from the south is the same rubeness with which I grew up in, in which my relatives, if they haven't eaten supper by 4:30 or, God forbid, 5:00 at the latest, then they might as well as not eat because it's too close to bed time.

19. You're about a mile south of Citicorp, which houses several fine
restaurants. I used to work in the building and deciding which cuisine was for dinner was one of the perks.

But luxury comes @ a price. Here's a sample menu

http://www.hillstone.com/pdf_menus/houstons/Houstons_Citicorp.pdf

Of course, the quality will be unsurpassed and you can expect attentive service.

my interview is at 2 and i'm not sure how long it will last.. at least a couple of hours. the way it works out we land at 3:35 tuesday and leave our hotel for the airport at 3:45. my interview starts wednesday at 2 and i'm not sure how long that lasts. we want to maximize our time there so i'm trying to figure out with our time and the interview when would be the best night to meet up. wednesday probably would be better, but i'll have to check it out with my mom.
