I saw Andrew Zimmern from Bizarre Foods this weekend
He gave a talk at a travel expo sponsored by National Geo. When you checked in for the show they gave you a bag with literature and a small box of salt and vinegar flavored crickets. We had company over on Sunday and tried them. Well, my wife and I tried them the other couple didn't have any, however their 2 1/2 year old will do anything that Uncle Munkee does. I had a hard time stopping him from gobbling them up before my wife got one. Now I know crickets aren't that weird but my BiL is very squeamish about food so I made sure to video tape it all for him.

2. The food he eats doesn't gross me out. You know what grosses me out? The fact that
he chews with his mouth open.

That's why I can't watch his show anymore.

6. Exactly
and the people doing the sound on the show apparently are aware and seem to go out of the way to enhance or at least ensure the audiences hears every disgusting snap and smack. :)

7. food tasters do that on purpose, like wine tasters slurping
something about mixing air into the food/liquid in the mouth to pull aromas up to the nasal cavities, where a large percentage of "taste" is perceived by the olfactory system, not taste buds.

3. That's cool.
I like Andrew Zimmern. Did you see Bizarre Foods last week? He was in MN. He ate lutefisk at a cafe in Cyrus, which was only a few miles away from where I went to college. That was sweet.

4. They had lutefisk at Ikea in the winter but I didn't buy it
My brother was pissed I didn't bring it up for the holidays. I'll give it a shot next year.

8. I always imagine
what it must be like for him to go home for the holidays....

"No, son. You don't need to bring anything. Yes, fried malala-muhala bird* from Africa would be an interesting addition to the Passover seder. Yes, I realize it's kosher. But I don't want you to go to any trouble."

* imaginary bird name I just made up.
