Any songs you love which are sung by bands/artists you don't care about?
The obligatory daily music thread:

I'm wondering what songs people enjoy which are sung by bands or artists which you may not be a huge fan of or otherwise could take or leave.

For me, it would have to be "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica. I'm not that big a Metallica fan--usually if a song by them comes on the radio I get bored and switch stations--but I love "For Whom the Bell Tolls." Especially the rip-roaring instrumental intro. Something about it gets me pumped and excited whenever I hear it.

3. I don't like Neil Diamond, but one of his songs I really love.
The live version of "Holly Holy". I associate that with one of my favorite movies- Holy Smoke. It opens the movie perfectly. There's this gorgeous, sexy guitar at the beginning that moves you into the song. The movie itself was Harvey Keitel playing an "exiter" to people (Kate Winslet) seduced by powerful cults. Naturally, everything goes horribly awry. :hi:

4. I think that "Take It To the Limit" is one of the greatest singles ever made...
and I absolutely loathe The Eagles

5. All right, I finally thought of one
I saw your thread and wanted to post a response 'cause I usually find these kinds of threads interesting, but couldn't think of one to save my life. Generally, I either flat-out can't stand anything by an artist/band (Korn comes to mind) or can find at least three or four songs that I like by the artist. But I finally thought of one, even if it's a bit embarrassing. I really like the song "Waiting for Tonight" by Jennifer Lopez. In general, I don't care for "dance" music much at all, but I have a soft spot for the whole mid-'80's Miami sound: Expose's "Point of No Return" is one of my all-time favorite songs, odd as that is considering it doesn't sound much of anything like the bulk of the music that I like! I could not care less about anything else by J-Lo., but I think "Waiting for Tonight" is pretty cool. haha

6. I've liked some of Rod Stewart's covers.

I seem to remember he did a good version of Robbie Robertson's "Broken Arrow" and "Downtown Train" by Tom Waits.

In fact I have a mental list of songwriters -- Robertson and Waits are two, and Richard Thompson is another -- whose songs have been covered brilliantly by artists famous and obscure.

On edit: This is not to say that all the remakes I'm hearing these days are done well. In fact, some are criminal.

7. Can you imagine Tom Waits "getting back" at Rod Stewart by
covering "Do ya think I'm sexy?"
