Unless it's in Swiss "German", because I still only get about 70% of that! :P

1. My dear Zornhau!
Oh, how cool!

Your wife posted that you were going, and how much she would miss you...

Are you having a good time?

How's the weather, the scenery and so on?

:hi:

4. So far, so good
I'm doing a lot of work, so I haven't gotten to see much of the scenery. I did make it to the climbing gym here in town tonight which was really wonderful. Hopefully I'm going to get some sightseeing in this weekend! :hi:

I haven't been there in many years. (went from Grenoble to Geneva via Mont Blanc... it was gorgeous)

It's also my first choice if the signs went bad here.

43. No, "in der Schweiz" was correct. With "in" it takes the dative case, ergo "der."
Unless you are talking about active movement. To, or into would take the accusative
which is again "die." But as the question asked "where in Switzerland," there is no
moevment, so you use the dative case, which for "die" becomes "der."

Grammar lesson for today is over. You may now go get your cheese fondue.

19. Why (in the German Cantons)
Edited on Wed Apr-02-08 03:44 PM by AnneD
do the say Good Morning in German and thanks in French? And what is the name of that game they play with stones-it was fun? Also who is top on the Rap charts?

I can answer the cheese questions-the cheese's are always great because the cows are generally very happy. And all the chocolates are to die for for the same reason.

The above pic is a view from the Wengen Cog-Railway train station looking down on the town of Lauterbrunen, Switzerland. Here is a link to where the above the above picture is located - some really wonderful pictures here: http://www.nsrider.com/gallerymain/Switzerland/traildown.htm

I loved Lauterbrunen! It's a great spot to base yourself for lots of activities - including one of the worlds highest bungee jumps! If you go there, I highly recommend The Valley Hostel - beautiful accommodations and wonderful hosts. (Their daughter, if she's still working there, is quite the hottie!

Here I am, making the plunge a few years back:

I also did Para-sailing the day after the bungee jump. Wheeee!

56. yeah.... the falling dollar really hurts
I think my hotel, for two people and a dog was still under $200 a night, but for me (especially last year when I was living on savings) was pretty expensive. I was talking to a guy there who said that it's hard to get his friends from other countries to come and visit, because even if he gives them a place to stay, they have to buy food and things. I remember that my girlfriend and I went out for dinner: two little pizzas (like 9 or 10"), two beers, a shared salad and a shared desert was between 60 and 70 dollars. That was just at a normal restaurant - nothing fancy. However, I can say that all of the swiss people I know love their country in a way that would make a flag-wavin' 'merican blush. They're just not audacious about it. They seem to have a great standard of living.
