A slightly weird social question...
Okay, so there's this great little feminist/lefty bookstore in my city that I'm a part-time volunteer at. I also hang out there, like, all the time. Basically, I'm a part of the "family" there.

Anyways, one (actually two, but we're only talking about one in this situation) of my good friends is coming to my city for pride week. He went to my camp, which has a lot of campers from my area, so he knows a lot of the same people I do in my city. I told one of the people who works at the store that "I'm so excited for pride week, two of my friends who I haven't seen all year are going to be there then." She was like "You should totally be on our float for the dyke march!"

Anyways, here's my problem. My friend is a transgendered guy (female-to-male), and when I asked him if he'd be on the float, he said, flat out, no. He sees the Dyke March as a women's event and he has issues with being mistaken for a lesbian so he doesn't want to. I, of course, totally respect and support that. However, I know the people at the bookstore would kind of like me on their float. So should I go on the float and meet up with my friend later (He'll be there all week, and he knows a lot of people in my city), or should I skip being on the float and hang out with my friends instead?

1. What do you want to do?
Don't be on the float, just because you think you should. Be on the float, because you want to be on it. Your friend seems like he'd have plenty of company, either way.

3. That is a hard one. Ask him if he wants to walk beside the float. That way you can do both.

4. do the float and hook up later.
Were it me, I'd probably continue to badger my friend to ride the float too, but... should probably respect his opinion too.

5. Good, you are sensitive to your friend’s issue.
I agree, ride that float good and hard, then meet up with your friend. You are in for a very fun week!

6. can you ride the float halfway?
 like for the last half of the march? Spending time with friends who came from out-of-town is The most important thing, but riding on a float is a big deal too.

Another good thing you could do it post pictures afterward :)
