2. No, but I did levitate out of the chair and
my head did a 360.

Actually it wasn't that terrible, equiv to having a big cavity drilled and filled. I had enough Novocaine to fell a bull elephant and there wasn't that much drilling. The worst part was having to hold perfectly still while Dr Feel Good dug around.

Advice if dentist says the magic two words:

1. Good dentist

2. Lots of happy juice aka Novocaine

3. Be prepared for a stiff neck post procedure

4. The spousal unit - bless his heart.
He rode down with me (120 miles round trip, we're not exactly knee deep in dentists), sat for three hours and drove me back. I couldn't have done the drive back, no pain, just shaky from tension.

Another bit o'advice: 4. Have someone take you and bring you back.

6. Good thing. I remember when my mom had her wisdom teeth out. Not the
exact same deal but I think any sort of major oral work calls for a support team. And happy meds. :)

11. A support team is handy
If nothing else to listen to the graphic details

And happy meds to shut you up. :+

7. Brave girl and great hubby! Now you'll never make jokes about
things being worse than a root canal...nothing worse than that! Feel better!

9. That #4 is VERY good advice, right there!
The last time I ignored that rule was, (bad coincidence),
the one time that the novocaine really messed my head up.

I had played it smart (I thought) and taken the bus to my appointment;
I left the Dentist's office in a fog, and promptly got lost
for two hours before I found the bus stop again.

The novocaine had worn off LONG before I finally dragged my ailing self
into the pharmacy to get my painkillers.

I must have looked as bad as I felt- the pharmacist asked the older lady
in front of me for ID, and verified her scrip on his computer; but
when I got to the front of the line he just took the paper out of
my hand and started counting out pills!

14. Yeppers.
Don't try this on your own. I can usually handle Novo, but this time I did an excellent imitation of a billiard ball around the parking lot until hubby stuff me in the car.

I don't have much pain, but the day isn't over yet.

12. I had one at age 16
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 07:14 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
The strongest drug I'd had in my life at that point was Bayer Children's Aspirin.

They gave me TWO Seconals and they were STILL peeling me off the ceiling.

It took 3 visits, and then I had to have the crown fitted.

Took me about 20 years to get over my fear of dentists after that.

:toast:

PS: The root canal was bad, but nowhere near as bad as when my 8 year old niece punched me directly in the balls with all her might when I was 11. A root canal at that point, in comparison, would have been like a cool iced tea with a slice of lemon served poolside.

If you have a choice between a root canal and a violent punch to your balls, ALWAYS choose the ROOT CANAL.

:scared:
