Did you know that the classic 'Take Five' by Dave Brubeck is in 5/4 time?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=DDOgYw5-pNs

Throughout his career, Joe Morello has appeared on over 120 albums,
60 of which were with the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

I did not know that.

1. I knew Brubeck liked unusual time signatures
though I've forgotten everything I learned, I had a piano teacher that taught me from Brubeck's "Jazz Impressions of Eurasia" when I was about 12 or 13, in the mid-1960s. I played several of his pieces.

3. Additionally...
Did you know that album was nothing more than an experiment in using different timing in music?

Wouldn't recommend trying to march to it, as an ex marching band member.

9. I did know that T5 was in 5/4, but didn't know about Joe Morello.
I also know, from personal experience, that the Brubeck "classical" piecee Gates of Justice is a travesty that even a pre-concert of jazz from Dave and the lads cannot erase.

12. Yep, that whole album has unusual time signatures.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Out_(album)

Every jazz collection (or music collection in general) should include this album.

"Unsquare Dance" (from the album "Time Further Out") is in 7/8 -- that's even catchier than "Take Five."
