There's a UU church near my new apartment...
And I'm thinking of checking it out.

Seriously, my spiritual beliefs are kind of weird, so I think I could get a lot out of it.

Whaddya think?

1. I think UU churches are the place for people with weird spiritual beliefs.
No big surprise that half my family goes to UU churches. :P

2. I was raised UU
They are OK with pretty much anything, except worshipping Satan, which they frown upon slightly. Even then, they'll listen if you present your reason for doing so logically.

And they are so far left they even speak out against the Drug War. Definitely check it out.

3. UU churches are a great place to be. Sermons can be on just about
anything and the hymn books take from all sorts of beliefs. Get the to that UU Fellowship. You won't regret it.

4. I think you'll find a home there.
Check it out. Can't hurt. I may do it myself sometime, if I ever get the urge/need to set foot back inside a place of worship. But I've heard that UUs are very welcoming and nonjudgmental -- in short, they don't use religion as a cudgel. I can live with that.

5. I'd say try it.
I can't speak from personal experience as I've never attended one - but I've heard personal testimony on here from many who have found them to be a helpful way of finding some spiritual expression.

Going to a service or two isn't exactly signing up for life, and so if you're interested in some spirituality (which is evident by your posting of this thread) it can be a good way to start.

6. Don't let 'em draw you into their cult.
They'll have you brainwashed into believing in their non-specific, benevolent deific force that respects all other faiths, and chanting along with their generalized goodwill...if you feel like it. :7

Seriously, though, if I were looking for a church, UU is where I'd start. Good luck!

7. check it out.
It's the church for people who don't fit in regular (i.e. Christian) churches.

Full of atheists, agnostics, pagans, deists, secular humanists, confused and looking, people who love to discuss ideas, etc., etc.......

9. I miss UU (sigh)
I was a member back in New Haven, of the one that used to be Universalist. Here there is only one on the entire island, all the way across town, and its leanings are more Unitarian. It is also the most haole (Caucasian) place on the entire island save perhaps for the Outrigger Canoe Club.
