I joined Fly Lady
Kill me now.

My house is a disaster, so I need 350 emails a day reminding me to clean my sink and wear shoes.

It worked for awhile for me about 7 years ago.

Gawd, it is so Stepfordy though.

Yeah, I'm bored...and crazy.

:banghead:

Lemme finish cleaning the sink.

6. I thought the whole system of keeping your sink clean was weird.
I checked it out a few years ago, so maybe she's changed, but she advised not to use a dishwasher, and to keep your dirty dishes in a tub under the sink. That just wouldn't work for me. And the thing with the shoes on all the time? I can't do it. I think the best way to deal with clutter is to cull as much of it as you can, and then keep on it every day. Everything in its place. Even doing just a little bit a day helps a lot.

18. I remember a lot of good advice there, too.
Good luck on attacking your clutter. :) My problem is hidden clutter. I'm okay unless you look in my closet.

26. She must be full of shit, then.
Don't use a dishwasher?

Excuse me. Dishwashers get the water much hotter than your hands can stand. Washing dishes in hot tap water, even if you wear rubber gloves, is NOT going to kill all the germs. Tap water is NOT going to sterilize the dishes. It's not hot enough. Dishwashers kill the germs because they have a heater coil in the bottom.

She must not know anything about germs.

7. The concepts behind it are pretty good.
I get the digest version and scroll through to see what has worked for ordinary folks, et al.

The sink thing worked really well for me. Once I mastered that, keeping the kitchen clean became a priority.

12. I kept up with it for awhile
and it worked pretty good at the time. Then again, the kids were much smaller and didn't trash the house every time I turned around either.

I guess we'll see.

16. Uh, wait a minute....
I thought the kids got LESS messy as they get older. Mine is seven and can destroy a clean house in about a half hour. Are you telling me it's going to get worse? :banghead:

21. Much, much worse.
Wait until they start bringing the near adult sized teenage friends over. You can kiss a clean house goodbye.

I was surprised too.

teenager-ness - that's when I went on strike. still on strike.

I've never heard of this thing, so I'll check it out. When I got a divorce, I filled up a room full of stuff I just couldn't deal with at the time. no joke, an entire (sm. bedroom-size) room.

I've almost gotten through it all. but in the meantime... I said this yesterday, but honestly, I am having a huge, huge garage sale soon and I'm going to pay someone to help me clean up my house. I love to have a clean house... but I really, really get tired of cleaning up after my sons. So I don't.

They've learned how to do laundry (and none of their clothes get cleaned if they're sitting on their bedroom floors.) They have a schedule to alternate certain chores, and they forget them as much as they can.

I have "issues" about housecleaning. isn't that ridiculous? - I don't wanna go into all of the whys, but I used to get pushed into a bathroom with a toothbrush and a bottle of clorox and had to clean the floor, etc. with the toothbrush. After my mother died, I went through a little bit of hell on earth... this had nothing to do with my father (just to clarify, since that would be the natural assumption.) But before cleaning the bathroom I would get verbally abused for what seemed like forever. again, story is too long and too long ago, but I still get angry sometimes when I clean house.

It's strange how odd things can follow you throughout your life.

24. Oh, Lordy!
I'm in for it, then? I was hoping to get more cooperation from my daughter when she's bigger. Do you think bribery will work? ;)

Funny, I kind of went on strike this week, too. I work 6 hours a day, plus do all the housework, shopping, child-care, meals, etc. I also do volunteer work for the Democrats. I have a bad back and a foot problem, both of which are acting up and I just haven't been able to keep up lately. So today I hired someone to come and clean!! Now the house is sparkling and I can do my other stuff (laundry today) without freaking out about all the mess everywhere. This is the first time I have ever done such a thing. But I think it won't be the last.

Sorry about the "issues" you had with the cleaning and verbal abuse. That must not have been such a great chapter in your life. Hope it's over.

23. I hate getting all those damn emails
but the system does work. Don't tell FlyLady, but I don't shine my sink every night. :gasp: To me, it's a waste of time & water. I do it when I feel like it. :)

25. I got a lot of great ideas from it
but I think it is only for people who work part-time out of the home or full-time in the home. I couldn't keep up with it. If I shined my sink every day I would be doing it at 2:00 a.m.

I dislike wearing shoes period, so the shoe thing always bugged me.

Happy cleaning! :hi:
