Should I switch schools?
Next year, I'll be in my senior year. But, it occured to me today that I wake up pretty much every morning dreading going to school. I just really don't like how they teach at my school - most of it is pure memorization and I don't feel like I'm learning anything. I also don't have a real social group, which is really no big deal, but I wouldn't be leaving much if I were to transfer schools.

The high school I want to go to is an alternative school, only for grades 11 and 12 (meaning I wouldn't be the "new kid"). It's heavily based on independent study, but it's very academic, apparently the teaching style is closer to what it's like in university. They also have a big volunteer work component at the school, which is nice.

I know several people who've gone there. They all loved it.

Should I consider it, or is it not worth the trouble?

1. What about transportation?
Will it be a problem getting to and from school?

If not, I'd say go for it.

2. Not an issue.
I live in a city with a ton of public transit, so I can get pretty much anywhere in a hour or less. Actually, this school might be closer to my new place (I'm moving in May) than my current school is.

4. Awesome. Go for it.

As someone who went to a school that just didn't have a niche for me, I completely understand the need to find one that does.

3. sounds wonderful!
I'm a big fan of alternative schools, esp. if you are self-motivated.

Good luck.

5. I thought the same thing when I was in middle school...

While I lived close to the border between two districts, it was vetoed. Mum and dad said I'd have the same problems, problem people, social issues, and likely the same sort of incompetent people running the joint.

But my situation was somewhat different... Okay, the staff were just as thick like how they're at in your area, but the students were Satan's busboys and handmaidens.

I would be inclined to say "Go for it" if transportation won't be an issue... what may be the same may not be.

7. Can you speak to somebody in the office there about transfer?
Before you sell yourself on the idea you should make sure there won't be any issues with different graduation requirements, find out what you have to do when to get switched over, etc.

8. Sounds interesting
Talk to a counselor at the new school and see if you can sit in on a class or two.
