1. This is how my liturgy professor taught us about the use of "meter"
in choosing hymns. Any two hymns--or other pieces of music--with the same meter can use the tune and lyrics interchangeably. "Amazing Grace" and "Gilligan's Island" have the same meter. Then, my prof sang the lyrics of Gilligan's Island" to the tune of "Amazing Grace". Quite chucklesome.
