American Idol: I just voted for Kristy tonight because she looked beautiful and sang very well...
Edited on Wed Apr-09-08 02:01 AM by Radio_Lady
and she's from the small town of Selma, Oregon.

All three judges gave her "thumbs up" and positive comments.

Regarding the other seven, I didn't like Jason Castro's version of the Internet "Over the Rainbow" re-fresh. The lyrics didn't work for me, although he is adorable. That song will always remain Judy Garland's in my mind.

All the others tried hard and I didn't know many of the songs tonight -- except for the one that my stepdaughters used to listen to -- Carole King's "Tapestry" album. Oh, and there was a James Taylor song.

I just think I have to say this. Simon Cowell has such weird fluffy hair and it always looks like it's been cut in a "square." (My son has the same texture of hair, but he spikes it up with gels.)

However, his hateful act really distresses me -- I don't like the way he cuts to the bone. But Randy and Paula make up for it. Of course, Simon's laughing all the way to the bank. Ryan Seacrest is cute, too.

Did anyone here watch Larry King's program with the three judges? Pretty interesting... Cowell predicts one of the two Davids will win. But neither of them got to me exactly tonight.

I love talent selection -- used to be a part of the NBC "Tonight" show production unit when it was hosted by Johnny Carson. The senior talent coordinators often asked us young women to sit in and give our opinions on entertainers who were trying out for the show. We also did work with the many writers on the show, although I can't remember any names. The ones I do remember are Skitch Henderson (musical director and just the nicest guy to us younger folk), Dick Carson, who was Johnny's brother and who directed the program when I was there in the 1960s.

I also "rubbed elbows" with Barbara Walters, who worked for the "Today" show. She has done very well in broadcasting, and sometimes I envy her for being wealthy and using all her talents to the hilt. My life went in another direction, and I didn't get that famous, but I did marry a wonderful man and we do many things together. Barbara has one adopted daughter who didn't want (or couldn't have) children, so she is missing out on the delights of grandchildren in her life. Watching her daily routine made my head spin. She officially "retired" -- went swimming with the dolphins (I've done that on the Big Island of Hawaii) -- and then came back even better than ever. She is also divorced but "dates" some interesting men. She is a few years older than I am. Does anyone here remember when she was a brunette?

Anyway, I've watched "American Idol" about four times in all the seasons they've been on the air. Glad to see that so many talented youngsters still want to become "stars"!

Cordially,

Radio Lady in Oregon

3. Less politics and more WHAT? Sports? PBS? Animal Planet? Is it OK if I tune to
"American Idol" for an hour while I wash rugs, straighten up, and re-set up my house for prospective buyers? Then my husband and I watched Sunday's episode of "John Adams" on HBO. Excellent, believable, interesting acting by all.

Finished the evening with 1/2 hour of "The Daily Show."

There are hundreds of channels. Whatever you watch or do in YOUR leisure time is your business.

The only advice I take goes like this.

"Wipe from front to back."

It's mostly for women, and I don't know what you are.

Thanks so much.

Cordially,

Radio Lady in Oregon

11. Yeah, RL, you must be really stupid or evil or something else really bad, you know
to watch that crap, you know. Probably not as bad as going out of your way to insult someone for watching it. Or posting a one question response on the Internet to someone who has just written a lengthy, detailed analysis, the very existence of which should be sufficient answer to the previously mentioned question.

But bad, still. You should check with the Lounge from now on to be sure that what you want to watch is acceptable, to avoid these comments. You know?

27. I've seen crap.
It's brown, usually, and in no way resembles a television show. So what you are creating is a metaphor, and that's never fact, always subjective.

You could have easily bypassed this thread but you had to make your little comment.

Were you shy of your condensending remark quota for the day? I can't imagine of any other reason why you felt compelled to grace us with your cutting insight.

32. UPDATE: UnderTheOcean, I took your advice. I'm not watching it tonight (Wednesday)
Instead, I've taken a good poop at your suggestion. (Konsyl is a great laxative.)

I'm driving my daughter to the airport at 4:45 AM tomorrow morning.

Sleep overrules crap!

Good night and good luck!

4. I don't understand. Channel 12, KPDX in Portland. Comcast cable.
Rabbit ears don't do it anymore. No cable where you are? Don't wish to have cable? No worries. I'm not judgemental like SOME people are.

We're wired up the kazoo in this house. I'm a child of media and enjoy it immensely. Hubby's engineering ability comes in handy. But you have all those beautiful AZ surroundings where you are. I'm sure your evenings are really delightful.

Peace, Ptah. Nice to meetchu on the DU.

6. Are the two (cake and cable) mutually exclusive? I think not.
I certainly don't consider us high class, but we do elect to purchase the cable, broadband and telephone service that Comcast provides.

Actually, if my life had gone in a different direction, I might have been living in Montana on a ranch. Had a proposal when I was divorced with two little kids to go there and help out a divorced man on his property.

Although I didn't take him up on his offer, I'm beginning to train as a volunteer at this place:

http://www.forwardstride.org

It's just about two miles from my house. They provide horseback riding on horses as therapy for disabled people; part of a nationwide effort to do this.

Going to the training session next weekend.

9. Really! I was a little cowgirl crazy when I was a kid. Went to Knott's Berry Farm in CA
at age 8 and Grandma Ida bought me -- two GOLDEN Roy Rogers guns and a little hat!

I used to raise Boston Terriers in wild Florida during my teens. Then, I helped an older couple with a mare and a stallion. I rode bareback at 13 and it was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life! Then, city life overwhelmed me.

The road not taken is always captivating -- at least, in our minds.

14. I don't understand why they let people who sing country on this show
really. there's a county talent show. go on that one.

it pisses me off.

they should just let rappers and opera singers on if they're going to have country singers.

20. I just don't care for her.
She is my daughter's favorite though. I really don't like much country music, and she definately had that country twang. I'm not a fan of her choice of songs either. I'll give her credit though, she knows how to pander to her base.

22. I don't know why
she didn't just stand up there and say "Hey all you country lovin' sons of bitches, vote for me. YEEEEEHAAAAAW!" and be done with it.

I also thought David A. was overrated; David the other sucked; Carly was horrible; Aussie guy was good despite the judges not being able to recognize that; and Castro rocked the house. Of all the people left, I would buy a CD by Castro and none of the others.

28. Kristy was one of the few that didn't turn in a sucky performance
It wasn't great but it was better than most of the pablum that was offered up.

How ironic that an episode focused on inspirational songs turned out to be such a snooze-fest.

When all is said and done, the only person who had any real personality in that whole final 12 was Chekezie. Had he accepted the fact that he was better at up-tempo stuff vs. old-school ballads he may have still been in the competition. I guarantee you that he would have kicked ass on country week.

23. I missed it last night. Have out of town company and we went out
to eat and then browsed the book store for a couple of hours. I bought "The Pemberly Chronicles" by Rebecca Ann Collins. It is described as: "A Companinon Volume to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice". This is Book One. There are nine more books in the series. :woohoo:

Anyway, back to AI. This is my first time to keep up with it. I wonder who will get voted off tonight. I can see why you are "rooting" for your hometown girl R_L. Kristy is not my favorite but, I understand your sentiment. I like the men better this time out. I got hooked this season because of the way they have made their song selections.

Good to see you  :hi:

She doesn't sing too poorly but she really needs to get a personality. She is soooo boring.
