He was great on that show.

I remember he was also in that Six Feet Under episode where he played death.

2. He was relatively young.
No indication there was a long term illness involved.

How do you think they're going to handle his absence on the show?

4. Not sure. It would be tempting to write it in as a murder for Monk to solve
But I think that could be seen as quite inappropriate, depending on how his family felt about it.

They did do a storyline a while back about Dr Kroger wanting to retire. It was the one where Monk goes to the one armed therapist, which was a damn funny scene.
