PSA to the lounge: If your meds say DON'T drink alcohol...
while on it..DON'T drink alcohol!! I went out to a farewell happy hour at Dogfish Head Ale House yesterday and had a sampler of all the different types of ale. I didn't get drunk per se, but I did get a little buzz and it made me VERY sleepy-went to sleep about 8:30 last night. In fact, I'm home from work because even though my cats woke me up early this morning, I got up tried to barf (with nothing in my stomach) and called in sick..I went back to sleep and just woke up about a half an hour ago, but only cause the cats were jumping all over me...
Well, lesson learned, if the hard way....:hangover:

2. Sounds like you got hit hard, girl. It's weird how some people
can mix the two and don't seem the least affected, while others can't take a sip of an alcoholic beverage or they'll land flat on their asses. Maybe a day home with the kittehs is just what you need, anyway. :)

A couple years ago, I was going through a bout of insomnia. Doc scripted Ambiens for me. One night, I had taken one of those miracle-makers and shortly thereafter, a friend called me and asked me to meet up with him and his sisters at a bar in Philly. I hadn't seen them in a long time, completely forgot I took the Ambien, and headed out to the bar to see them.

I had one beer - ONE - and as a result, I have absolutely NO recollection of our conversations that night, nor do I remember the ride home (30 minute ride). :scared:

4. Sorry you had to learn the hard way.
Oh dear, I am glad you are all right. Alcohol can compete with meds for metabolism and thus increase or decrease the effectiveness. Also, your liver can take an extra beating, maybe why you have nausea.

Damn, I am glad those kitties woke you up and got you moving. Drink fluids if you can stomach it. A little coke in water always seems to help with nausea. Stay warm.

So is this where I admit I love the buzz you get from a Xanax and glass of pinot gris? I know to be careful, and don’t do it often, but on vacation, in a nice hotel, it just adds to the fun. I am not suggesting anyone else try this and I still believe it was this sort of combination that killed Heath Ledger.

6. So what did you think of the Dogfish - what kinds did you like?
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 12:35 PM by LynneSin
I'll have Dogfish at my party but probably just the Pale Ale or 60min IPA. Some of there stuff is really really good but way out of my party budget

And don't be taking no sleepy drugs at my party! We can probably hit some of the local pubs by my house after the party dies down!

10. I liked the shelter pale ale the best
The 60 minute IPA was okay but a bit umm strong for me..Isn't that the one that is like 9% alcohol?....I think I will not be doing much drinking though. I think the reaction was with my anti-depressant. I will probably have a glass but thats about it....otherwise, I will be asleep way before anyone else!

14. Especially not with Metronidazole (Flagyl)
Taking Metronidazole is gross enough; making the mistake of having a drink with it makes it so much worse. SO much worse!

My meds play well with the occasional glass of wine, but not with grapefruit juice ... which means strong grapefruit juice cravings.

17. I could take 'em or leave 'em until I *had* to leave 'em....
...oh, the perversity of human (or just my) nature!

Ever think maybe your cats poisoned you because you weren't home enough? Little bastards are sneaky.

16. I just got a New Drug.

I'm still getting used to feeling stoned from the prescription. There is no way I'm gonna drink right now.
