especially if you get canker sores from the irritation. The Maalox really helps sooth. This is actually a good remedy for any time you get a canker sore for any reason. If you can add a little bit of the numbing gel to the solution too all the better. Just swish it around really good for a couple of minutes and then spit it out.

Haruka says you hardly ever have to use the wax once your mouth gets used to them. She said the worst part about braces was getting hit in the mouth with them. I don't think you're doing full-contact karate, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I had braces in my 50's. I told myself that I did not want to lose teeth from misalignment like my father. But really I was tired of seeing pictures of me as a chipmunk. They were no fun, but they eventually were taken off. No more chipmunk smile.

Just make sure to wear your retainers after they come off!

It was a year-and-a-half of oral torture, or oral whiplash, depending on your point of view. I had the full neck gear, on the outside. Long term, it was a good thing. It is much easier to keep my teeth healthy and clean now.

Suggestion- soft foods and warm fluids for the 3 days after they tighten the arch wires. Tomato soup was my favorite.
