Some guilt feelings about new job and a potentially better one...sigh
So for many many months I was out of work. I took the first job in the tech field I could get at really crap wages and a loser for a boss.

So then I get in with a new company with a really cool guy for a boss and a job I love, and I have helped it out a ton in the last 3 days (he was a paramedic and got thrust into the computer role years ago, and my skills have helped him get things going better already).

So within the last three days I have had 2 more companies express great interest in me. One I told to take a flying hike, the other one though is more money, free cable/internet/phone, etc and when they emailed me back (after 1st interview) asking me to call them I didn't. But they called again today and spoke with the wife and asked her to please have me call them as they don't want me to get away.

I called them and told them I would talk with them next week.

But I feel really bad about it all - I got this new job, just two of us in the tech department, and they took a chance on me. But on the other hand I could have a much better career with the larger company and better future and benefits.

For about 8 months, no calls. Now I am bombarded with them it seems. And this latest opportunity is a step up. There are other factors (the company I am with is privately owned, and if the owner croaks etc, do I have a future?).

I dunno, I try to be as loyal as I can when someone gives me a job and a chance, but on the other hand I have family to worry about.

Damn.

1. Do what is best for you. You can be assured any employer will..
do the best for the company. Unfortunately these are not always congruous. I've had many good employees leave, some after short stints. I've been one of those as well, even as far as giving 1 week notice at a business with 450 in which I was the COO. Ya do what ya gotta do.

2. Feast or Famine, is it? My life tends to run that as well. You have
to do what is best for you and your family....Keep the lines of communication open. Let Autmn Mist help you decide what is best for thewhold family...make it a "joint" decision.

haha! joint!!....I crack myself up :yoiks:

3. Don't feel too bad
Take the better job and offer to consult for the small company part time. Don't do the part time gig for the money, do it to help them out. A few hours a month can do wonders for the place. It's a good way to pay back the "really cool boss". Nice people need to be rewarded and encouraged as much as possible.
