Should I start a blog?
I've tried blogging before, and I got bored of it rather quickly since it was clear that nobody was reading my blogs. So I've been ranting via facebook notes for the last little while, and it occured to me, "Maybe I should start a blog again!" I'm going to be using Wordpress, I think.

Should I start blogging again?

And if I do... how do I actually get people to read it this time around?

4. tough call
There's so many blogs out there and it's hard to get attention, even if you network like crazy and link to other blogs. When I did mine I got a huge boost when Peter Daou from Salon stumbled upon my blog and linked to me as featured blog on Salon for one week. I finally quit due to time constraints.

What the hell, go for it. If you enjoy the process it's worth it whether you get a lot of attention or not.

2. YES!
I think you have a lot to offer and you seem to have a very interesting life. I'd like to read it. I'm sure others would too.

6. i'm still working on it
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 05:37 PM by Ava
i'm hoping to enable people to upload posts from their own blog sites via rss feeds for easier cross posting. i'm also working on a handy little video upload gadget that changes videos to flash similar to what youtube does.

hopefully with some hard work it'll come out successful in the end. thanks! :hi:

7. If you think it will help
Thousands of people start blogs each day. Some of them are after readership, others are just writing to get things off their chest. If you're the latter, then sure, it can't hurt. If you're the former, then expect to have to a put a lot of work into it and still have the possibility of low readerships.

8. Helps if you have a theme.
Something to blog about, or something interesting to pull in readers.

The only blog I read on a regular basis is http://www.waiterrant.net/ . Not only is it well written, but it's got a theme. It's got something running through it that keeps it going. Obviously he deviates from the main theme to talk about whatever he feels is important, but it's still there.

Just my two cents. :)

9. Hmm... I'm thinking it's going to be mostly left-wing politics oriented.
I won't be posting too much personal stuff, unless it relates to political or social issues. I suppose I'll blog about things like feminism, LGBT issues, disabillity issues, and whatnot. Do you think that's specific enough?

11. That's specific enough to target an audience with, but the human connection always helps too.
On the other hand, you don't want to make it too personal because then it'll just be another livejournal. :P

10. I think the best part of a blog
is the therapeutic value of just blogging...getting it all out.

Who cares if anybody reads it. You are saying what you want to say, and it should be more about you than the readers, anyway.

12. Why not just post on DU and use your journal?
It's very bloggish, and you get your own URL and everything. Not necessary to leave home and you still have fun! :D
