I had the "late for final exams" dream again
I've been out of college for years and years. When do I finally get to stop having this dream? I'm at the point now where, even in the dream my attitude is, "So fucking what? It's an exam. I'll answer what I can, I can't be bothered to give a fuck about this anymore. I know I'm going to ace it anyway."

I was only an hour late this time. I think that's a personal best. Used to be, I'd be three hours late.

About once a month, I have the "OMG! I'm registered for a course I never attended!" dream.

Where it's finals week, I pull out my original semester schedule and find I'm signed up for a class I completely forgot about. And it's too late to drop. I've been known to actually wake up in a cold sweat.

I finished my last degree in 1985.

29. I've had that dream as well!
I was in my last semester in college. I had a dream that there was an American history class I needed to take to graduate and I had enrolled but never attended class.

Wierd...

39. Mine too
I always dream it's the end of the semester and I've never attended a math course I was registered for.

So funny to see other people dream the same thing. Must be a very common anxiety.

41. My nightmare is a math course I never attended, too.
I always had to study hard for math classes.

I am not alone.

2. Maybe this is a sign of growth!
The fact that your attitude has changed may indicate shift in your life.

Frankly, I suspect people of all ages have some variation on that dream.

4. It doesn't ever stop
I have the "late for finals", "late for school" dream every month or so and have had it for the last twenty years.

It sucks, but you get used to it.

5. I have that dream all the time. It does suck in fact

it dogs me the whole next day.

I think it reflects repressed feelings of unfinished
business as well as fear of time and life running out.

A real bummer.

8. Whoa! I fairly frequently have the "OMG! I'm registered for a course I never attended!" dream, and
I know that's a fairly common dream. But I thought I was the only one that had the "I've forgotten the combination to my high school locker" dream.
I'm almost 52.

Does anyone else have the "Gross! My teeth are all falling out and crumbling apart" dream?

12. No, but I have had the "OMG my penis is detached" dream
Wherein I wander around trying to get it re-attached. It kind of throws you for a loop. I don't even want to know what Freud would say. I just want it back on. I can see why someone wrote a song about it. It's scary.

21. It's not about the dream, exactly
But it's called Detachable Penis.

I woke up this morning with a bad hangover
And my penis was missing again.
This happens all the time.
It's detachable.

background singing begins:
"detachable penis" over and over

This comes in handy a lot of the time.
I can leave it home, when I think
it's gonna get me in trouble,
or I can rent it out, when I don't need it.
But now and then I go to a party, get drunk,
and the next morning I can't for the life of me
remember what I did with it.
First I looked around my apartment, and I couldn't find it.
So I called up the place where the party was,
they hadn't seen it either.
I asked them to check the medicine cabinet
'cause for some reason I leave it there sometimes
But not this time.
So I told them if it pops up to let me know.
I called a few people who were at the party,
but they were no help either.
I was starting to get desperate.
I really don't like being without my penis for too long.
It makes me feel like less of a man,
and I really hate having to sit down
every time I take a leak.
After a few hours of searching the house,
and calling everyone I could think of,
I was starting to get very depressed,
so I went to the Kiev, and ate breakfast.
Then, as I walked down Second Avenue
towards St. Mark's Place,
where all those people sell used books
and other junk on the street,
I saw my penis lying on a blanket
next to a broken toaster oven.
Some guy was selling it.
I had to buy it off him.
He wanted twenty-two bucks, but I
talked him down to seventeen.
I took it home, washed it off,
and put it back on. I was happy again. Complete.
People sometimes tell me I should get
it permanently attached,
but I don't know.
Even though sometimes it's a pain in the ass,
I like having a detachable penis.

particularly about money

so fucking what

college tried to make us think we were supposed to care about bullshit

I think college is no match for the collective unconscious who says "SO FUCKING WHAT"

just like in this song "Pea" by RHCP

13. My 'finals' nightmare never changes:
its always a math class (I did OK in math) and I have just remembered I had enrolled in the class. I walk in the room and everyone looks at me because its my first time to attend.

My daughter is graduating in 4 weeks with a degree in accounting. She just had the finals dream with the weirdness that the class was "Fundamentals of Mexican Accounting."

40. Yup, I fit in here. Can't even find the classroom!
Running around, panicked, trying to remember, was it Altgeld 310 or 130, can't even find the fucking building.... In my version, I'm even desperately, frantically rummaging around in a semester's worth of dendritus in my backpack trying to find my original class schedule (which of course I know is utterly futile).

I HATE this dream

Graduated 1984.

19. I have often wondered what dream form that anxiety took in earlier days...
my theory is that when we were an agrarian people it may have been something along the lines of "the growing season is well underway and I still haven't gotten the crops planted!"
The "late for final exams" or "blowing off the class throughout the term" dream fascinates me. Myself and everyone I know have had it so many times.

23. better than me...
in my "exam" nightmare, its finals day and i suddenly realize that i am registered for another class that i forgot about- and have never attended, never bought a book for, and (of course, because its finals day) it is too late to drop.

i'm frantically running around the campus to find my forgotten class, having a nervous breakdown about the inevitable horrid grade...

has anyone else ever had this modified version?

not 'LATE for the EXAM," but "FORGOT the CLASS!"

31. I had a string of "back in high school"
dreams in the 70's and living in Florida.
In the dream I had to go back to finish some credits.
I'm telling them "I have my diploma, I have a BA in history from Tech, what do you want with me?" And I couldn't figure out how to get back to Florida.
I'd wake up and for a several seconds at least didn't quite know where I was.
BTW I was late for my geology final my first semester at college.
I had a cold, had taken something and overslept. No biggie.

36. An Extremely Common Stress Dream
Probably the most common.

Mine is that I'm in high shool and late for class, then I realize that I already graduated from College years ago.

In real life, when I was in high school, I was also taking college courses at night, so that reality exacerbates the dream, I think.
