That's IT! I'm taking a night off from studying.
The next section, on the Endocrine System, is just one chapter long. I'll damn well start it tomorrow. I'm taking a night for relaxation.

Talk to me. B-)

1. My dear Aristus!
I'd be happy to talk to you, for a few minutes anyway...

Just got home from a chamber music recital! They happen monthly at a local church, and we enjoy them a lot...

I'm not crazy about chamber music, but heard live is wonderful!

I just sent my newest poem off to my instructor, and I'm looking forward to hearing what she has to say!

I'd post it tonight, but we're going to be spending the evening watching the last two episodes of John Adams...

And I do like to be around to talk to anyone who plays in my thread!

And I need a nap...

It's great to see you, sweetie...

3. Hey CalPeg!
:hi:

What pieces did the chamber group play? And what is the title of your poem?

13. The group was Bach's Circle...
Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 08:17 PM by CaliforniaPeggy
And they played some pieces by Bach, and a couple of his sons, and one by Vivaldi...Can't remember any of the names of the works, though, sorry!

My poem is called "The Sensuous Orange." I had a thread about it last night...I'll fetch the link in a moment!

I posted the first two lines...as a tease!

14. That J.S. Bach was something else, wasn't he?
The guy fathered 23 children; 7 of them went on to become famous composers in their own right, including Johann Christian Bach and Carl Phillip Emmanuel Bach.

I've got about twenty CD's of Bach's music, and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of his total output. The man was astounding.

15. He was amazing...
Funny, apparently he was considered rather stodgy in his day...

His sons were much more popular!

Do you remember who rediscovered him? Mendelsohhn! He admired the heck out of Bach, and reintroduced his music...

16. Yeah, Bach the Elder was relatively obscure in his day, being known locally as a very
gifted organist. His contemporary, Handel, was much more popular.

If you're a music geek, like me, CalPeg, maybe you'll agree that if you want polyphonic, listen to Bach; for homophonic, Handel's your man. :+

17. I like them both...
But I'm not really sure what those terms mean...

Poly is many, of course, and homo is single or one...

I enjoy both those fine composers, but have never really thought about why!

My husband's the true music geek: he plays a wicked piano! Classical, jazz, bebop...

I'm sure he'd get your reference...

See you later!

I'm off to make dinner...

:hi:

18. Polyphonic is a style of music in which many interconnected themes appear
simultaneously in the score. Bach's Tocatta and Fugue in D minor is a good example. Homophonic is a style in which one theme only at a time is played by the orchestral instruments, more or less in unison. The Allegro maestoso from Handel's "Water Music" is a good example of that.

2. Endocrine system? Booooring. I'd much rather study the nervous system.
And by that, I mean I'd much rather sneak up behind someone and tickle them unexpectedly, or start poking them repeatedly in the same spot and say, "Does this hurt yet? Does this hurt yet?" every time. :P

HATED IT! :banghead:

I'm SO glad to be done with neurons for a while...

and a science fiction fan so I've developed a bit of an interest in AI. :)

8. Yeah, I'm not looking forward to pharmacology.
Even cursory looks at the discipline make my head spin. Fortunately, we students get to carry a PDA with pharma software for quick-reference. That'll help. :-)

Thanks for the , lost!

I'm fine, just bored from constant studying. A foretaste of what to expect when P.A. School starts in July...

21. PA - pharmacy assistant?
Are ;you studying to become a pharmacy tech?

If so, some people are going to be very lucky. I never get to flirt with the ones I run into! :P

23. Physician Assistant. It's kind of one rung down from Doctor.
A P.A. can make diagnoses, write prescriptions, etc. I've been told that P.A. School, far from being Med. School Lite, is actually four years of med school crammed into two years. So, that's going to be my life for the next couple of years starting in July.

So, I won't be a pharmacy tech that you can flirt with. :(

Did you want to play "Doctor" instead?
