I'm watching the first season of Maude and she's about to have an abortion...
...that would be controversial even today, maybe even more so.

The quality of the transfer to DVD isn't great, and boy does that house and those fashions look dated!

That damn theme song is running through my mind constantly.

Bea Arthur was fantastic as Maude, she was in many ways the whole show.

:)

1. Note, the epilogue to episode 2 was excised by CBS when they put the DVD together.
I do not know why.

Styles do change, that is inevitable.

I liked the artwork displayed in the house...

2. Hmm...I don't recall the epilogue, but when I get to the end of this
two-parter, I'll see if it seems abbreviated, or if I recall seeing more when it originally aired.

The artwork is interesting, but there is so much yellow and orange in that house!!!!

5. I remember that also, I'd just forgotten that it was in the first season...
...and fairly early into that first season as well.

4. I got sent to my room when that episode originally aired.
Parents decided I was too young for the subject matter.

6. My parents didn;t watch the show, so they didn't know I was...
...I must have been 12...and now looking back, it's being handled well, because she is going through quite the dilemma in deciding what to do...very difficult decision.

10. One of the greatest theme songs, ever.
And I remember the abortion episodes, too.

I saw them again a few years back (on TV Land, I think) and they moved me to tears.

Society, I think, owes a great debt to Norman Lear for being willing to bring these issues into the forefront in a day when most would rather not have admitted such issues existed.

12. Lady Godiva was a freedom rider
she didn't care if the whole world looked.
Joan of Arc with the Lord to guide her she was a sister who really cooked.

Isadora was the first bra burner and you’re glad she showed up. (Oh yeah)
And when the country was falling apart Betsy Ross got it all sewed up.
And then there’s Maude. (6X)

And then there’s that old compromisin’, enterprisin’, anything but tranquilizin',
Right on Maude!
