For Music Lovers - My Favorite Free Application Download
This is my PSA -

Songbird. It just NOW made it to .5 BETA and has rocked the socks off any release version software I've used since the .0x days.

http://www.songbirdnest.com/

I just downloaded and am playing with the newest version now - so it's on my mind. Try it, you'll like it! :)

5. It does a LOT -
But basically, it's a music player (ala Winamp) / web browser. It uses extensions like Mozilla, so it's hugely customizable and upgradeable. There's even an iPod compatible extension - but I can't comment on how well that works as I haven't used it. I don't even KNOW all of the cool stuff it does there's so much - but one majorly cool thing is that it takes all of the mp3s it finds on a webpage and opens a frame in the bottom of the browser and lists them. You can play them from the player by clicking on them, and/or if you want there's a "download" button you can click and it will automatically download the song and add it to your music library. There's a bookmark to Skreemer in there (a music search engine) thats AWESOME to find and download stuff with.

Same deal with music blogs - it separates out all mp3s from the page and places them at the bottom for easy listening/downloading. Dave found an extension for emusic that he used last night and he said it rocked. I can't speak to that either though, since I've never used emusic.

7. OK, you sold me.
If it has some sort of awful bug and, as a result, you never hear from me again, I expect you to take care of my wife, my son, and my four stepkids. Thank you for taking that responsibility. :D

8. I'm sure you'll be just fine.
I've been messing with it since the .0x versions, and it's remarkably well built. ;) I can't WAIT to see what the release version will be like - whenever that happens.

10. OK, I've been playing with it for five minutes. You are officially a bad person.
My wife already has a hard enough time getting my attention; now I may never even talk to her (or anyone else) again! How can you live with yourself??? :grr:

11. Haha!
You guys have more than one computer? Two words. Instant Messaging. LOL

I've loved Songbird since the first time I looked at it - however long ago that was. A couple of years? Looong time. Anyway, it's such a well done application - it impresses me greatly.

I just signed up for last.fm today too --- it's why I'm still sitting at the computer instead of being productive. Have you checked that out yet? Looks coooooooool.

(sorry sarah!)

Another thing you may like to check out if haven't already .... I just signed up for last.fm today, and it seems COOL so far. ;) Also, pandora.com is way cool if you haven't already tried that. I listen to that all day at work.

Ack! Forgot to say - I am doing WELL. :D How are you?

12. I was reading about this at Digg. Sounds handy. I normally opt for NO FRILLS
like Foobar (god I love minimalism) but, based on your rec, I think I'll give this a try.

13. I haven't used Foobar -
But I'm kind of like you, I think. Not much of a frills person. But this really IS a killer app. And hey, you can always uninstall it. ;)

16. My only complaint about it is speed
it can be pretty slow at times. But it does have some really nice features.

17. Hmm... I never thought to check the minimum requirements.
I've been pretty lucky and have not noticed much issue with speed - which is surprising since I'm running a couple of server apps and other assorted crap on this pc.

Thanks for checking it out! :)

I'm still figuring this last.fm thing out. I'm wondering how it will work for me - as I almost ALWAYS listen on random. :)

20. Should work great.
The best part of LastFM is that it lists similar artists. You can, and will, spend hours branching out from what you already listen to into similar new stuff you've never heard of.

Discovery rules!

21. Haha - like I need MORE.
Music is truly viral.

I'm laughing right now because the song that just came on is a remnant of the 18-19 year old girl that lived with me for a year.... Danity Kane? Wtf? It reminds me of her though, so I suppose it's nostalgic. ;)
