thanks for the idea, actually.

The octopus is looking pretty good on her leg actually. The swelling has gone down some; it is very colorful. I want her to put up some photos for me so I can share them.

14. I love the tigers...
We didn't see them the other day though. We were trying to get to animals that we didn't see the last time...like the anteater, whose photograph was blurry.

I'd love to see your tiger pics! Feel free to post them here! :hi:

Sloth bears come from Asia...southern Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka. Those big claws help them dig up ants and termites for food. :hi:

30. The Woodland Park zoo in Seattle has a Sloth Bear too.
I once saw it cracking open a bone by smashing it on a rock. Zoo bears are normally so passive, it was pretty awe-inspiring to see that a funny-looking animal like that could mess you up really bad if it wanted to.

19. I used to watch the tamarins...
Back when I had time to volunteer. I hope to get back to it one of these days...

I'm not sure what they're going to do thid year. They're creating more space for the elephants (YAY!!!), but their work is going on pretty close to Beaver Valley. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to forgo the free-range exhibit for this year, to avoid stressing the little guys out.

28. My son took most of them...
He wanted to see if the camera would pick up the refracted light through the plexiglass panes. It's kind of interesting, especially since someone was walking through the door as he took the pic. :D

36. The octopus is fascinating.
We watched this documentary about them once. Apparently, they had one in a tank, and across the room was a tank of fish. One morning the researchers came back to the lab to find the octopus in his tank, but the fish had disappeared. He had gotten out of the tank, worked his way across the room, at the fish, then made his way back to his own tank. Apparently they are beyond geniuses and get bored very easily. I feel sorry for them in the zoo.

39. They are very intelligent...
Edited on Sun Apr-20-08 08:34 AM by GoddessOfGuinness
The blue thing underneath the octopus is a little plastic cage that had a shrimp in it until the octopus got it.

The person who was working in the invertebrates exhibit said that they won't try to breed them. Apparently, not long after the eggs hatch, females die.

45. That little marmoset was as interested in watching us
as we were in watching him. It was just before closing time. In fact we didn't gt to see the entire small mammal house. I'm sure he sensed his bedtime was near. He probably figured he'd relax with his favorite show before retiring for the night.
