Earthquake in Indiana?

1. I did, I'm in St. Charles Missouri...

I looked at the USGS map for the last hour, looks like it occurred in the lower part of Illinois.

3. It freaked me out, never experienced an Earthquake before...

Shook the house, and lasted a long time, at least it seemed to, just everything moved around me, it was weird. I checked the USGS website, haven't had an Earthquake like this that could be felt, since 1968, in Missouri at least.

but I lived in SoCal for many years. :freak:

The house shook a bit and I rode out the waves that were moving across the kitchen floor while trying not to spill my coffee.

19. I lived in southern Cal and Japan....

...and back then earthquakes were no big deal.

Funny thing is, when you live in a place that hardly ever has earthquakes, they freak you out when they hit. I didn't even recognize it as an earthquake despite my experiences in CA and Japan. At first I thought I was having convulsions, then I thought it was just a really big truck driving by.

Hey, maybe this earthquake is a precursor for the Yellowstone Caldera finally blowing up. Aren't we overdue for an eruption?

Home with my baby sister alone while they were on an all day excursion (first time; 10 and 4). It freaked me big time. I recall it so clearly, as do several folks around here my age, because it started right when George of the Jungle was coming on and it coincided with the whole "Watch out for that tree" shaking boooooiiiinngg thing in the opening.

8. that's what that was??

I thought it was a train, at first... like some really heavy train was passing on the tracks thru town here. but then it wasn't just shaking window panes... the house itself was "vibrating." had that train roll thing going on. wasn't huge here, but definitely noticeable.

FYI…at 4:45am an earthquake in Kentucky shook buildings in Chicago and was felt in Milwaukee area.

I was working at my desk and felt the building shake. Was weird, I thought XXX or someone had come in and was messing with me by shaking my cubicle wall.

I heard a small bang or two like things may have fallen. So check your stuff.

33. USGS says it's the Ozark Dome...

which borders New Madrid. The biggest recorded quake there was a 5.4 in 1968...a turbulent year in more ways than one.

I was in elementary school in Nashville, TN then. It rattled the dishes in the china cabinet.

I was sitting in a car with my new born son in 1987 waiting for my then hub to finish soccer practice. A New Madrid one? I thought someone was in back of my car shaking it as a joke. Don't remember it making a noise.

This one was much louder, today. had that train car smacking thing going on where I am.

I wonder if this one was louder because it was closer to the surface.

I've never felt an earthquake, and wouldn't mind if I never did. We do get them to the north of here sometimes, but it's a rare occurrence, and they've only been in the 1.5-2.5 range for the most part.

And by the way, I'm not such a whippersnapper anymore...I'll be 50 in November. :hi:
