I gots me a Piggly Wiggly t-shirt!!!
A friend from the deep, dark reaches of the American south sent me a care package today. It contains a Piggly Wiggly t-shirt!!!

You see, to those of us who've only lived in the Union states, the Piggly Wiggly is a mythical place. I first heard the name in "Driving Miss Daisy" and thought it was a joke. It gasted my flabber to learn it was real.

So now I have proof that I can wear proudly.

I also got a duct-tape wallet and some sort of home-made foodstuff in a jar. I think it's either fig preserves or possum livers.

There's a Piggly Wiggly down the street from my Grandma's old house and the last time I was in there I found a section at the end of the refrigerator'ed wall that had the pigs' feet and some other gory stuff I couldn't even look at :scared:

3. Aw, I ain't been in a Piggly Wiggly in 42 years
:(

The coolest-named store in those parts, though, was this:

That's no Photoshop. I've been in that sumbitch. :D

Okay, technically not. That one's in Dumas, Ark. and I was in the one in Warren. But the sentiment's the same. :P

5. I shop The Pig SEVERAL times per week.
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 05:19 PM by PeaceNikki
I am there at the deli for lunch, deli for dinner and every grocery trip. They know me by name there. I quite literally JUST got home from there.

I deserve a personalized parking spot.

I'd have gotten you a shirt eons ago had I known the mythical nature it represents to you. I can hook you up with Piggly Wiggly canvas shopping bags if you're hankering for more Pig nostalgia.

Piggly Wiggly... SHOP THE PIG!! :patriot:

OH... and did you know Chicago area has "Moo & Oink"?

Does the pig mascot have a name? I'm considering building a shrine. He has replaced Hello Kitty in my dreams.

10. the funniest sign i ever saw was in front of the piggly wiggly near where i lived during college
someone had spray painted a sign outside the door to read: "Pig Pricks / 39¢ a Pound"

Lame, but I still laugh about that.

18. Had P-W supermarkets in New Mexico when I first moved here in '72
Hank and Lewie Wickham, who later became friends of mine( played with Hank for awhile in the 90's) did a local commercial singing what I assume was an original song extolling the virtues of shopping at Piggly Wiggly while standing in the aisle at one of the stores. I wish to hell I had a copy of that commercial. Wonder if Hank or Lewie have one somewhere...(they probably wouldn't admit it if they did)

Dollar does. There used to be a joke around here that three of our groceries ( Big Star, Harris Teeter, and Piggly Wiggly)
had been bought and merged into one by Dolly Parton. The name of the new stores was:

Big Wiggly Teeters. ;-)

21. Esoteric...

Every time I see Close Encounters of the Third Kind, I smile. One of the trucks that the military hid their stuff in, was a Piggly Wiggly truck. I seem to remember seeing the store when I was younger and lived in Alabama. So since then, the movie brings back the memories.
