Every now and again something happens to remind me I live in Texas
Edited on Sun Apr-20-08 02:37 AM by Richardo
Today as I took the trashcans to the street, I looked in one of them and found a live possum staring back at me.

Disclaimer: Not this possum.

Thinking quickly, I gently tilted the trashcan away from me until it was close enough to the ground for him to jump out and scurry away. I don't know how long he was in there, but it was at least long enough to leave a couple of poops behind him. I could not help but wonder how many nights last week we had a close encounter as I took the trash out. :scared:

30. one showed up in a tree in the courtyard garden at our church one Sunday morning
down town Fort Worth. I guess it crept up from the river area. Anyway it was pretty frightened when it realized it was in a tree surrounded by humans

3. Yes. That would have been worse.
Thankfully, the range of Rodentus Kathrinis Harrisus is still limited to Florida.

19. What are those little green thingies on those trees?
We don't have those on ours. In fact, the color "green" is only a faint recollection.

12. I'm not certain what's so unusual about an opposum in a tree.
However, if it was daylight, I wouldn't have gotten near it. It may have been rabid.

32. I saw the disclaimer, it was the use of the word "today" that
made me uncertain. Just thought I'd give a reminder in case it was daytime.

16. I think possums live in every state
in the continental US. If he was wearing a big hat and carrying a gun, THEN it would be an only-in-Texas experience.

17. possums and coons come up on our deck on a regular basis
(we live above a wet land and have several acres of grassland/timber on our property). They get into the garbage if they can't find enough to eat around our land. The little ones that skitter off don't bug me too much, the big ones that give me the 'what are YOU looking at?' stare give me the heebeegeebees! :scared:

where I grew up. We had skunks all over the place. I never saw any possum. I would rather run into a possum than a skunk.
