We called him yesterday, and he reluctantly agreed to leave his weekend house painting job to drive a few miles to meet us at Starbucks (after we've driven to Wichita from Dallas and back and forth to El Dorado, Augusta and Toronto, Kansas). He's very much a "sad sack" about his lot in life. He managed to tell me in 5 minutes about all of his woes, most of which revolve around our 20-year-old niece, who married a jerk without telling him, joined the Air Force and then had to take an honorable discharge due to shin splints, came home, got separated from her husband and then found out she was pregnant. LOVELY. It was only at the end of the conversation that he bothered to ask how I was doing. He doesn't even know Bullwinkle lost her husband in October, and she won't tell him unless he asks. It's always all about HIM - no one else has ANY problems! He also hurt me by telling his helper "he had to talk to this lady." I said, "THIS LADY?" I'm his sister!
Anyway, we are going to our mother's and sister's graves, then to see if Brother DTBK shows up, then heading back to Texas. Wish us luck!
