1. Oriole
They are less easy to identify outside of a baseball park, their natural environment.

3. there are numerous oriole species-- ask Xemasab....
My money's on oriole too. It will help if you tell us where the pic was taken since different species have different geographic distributions.

12. Here's why it's not an oriole:
Orioles have pointy little meadowlark/blackbird beaks.

The bird in the OP has clearly got a big, seed-eating beak.

13. that's why you're the ornithologist and I'm not, LOL....
One of my grad students took me on a marsh bird walk a year or so ago. She hasn't repeated the experience. I think she knows my ornithology fu is very weak.

9. I thought grosbeak first thing, but couldn't narrow it down.
Thanks. I know I didn't originally ask, but still. I'm one of those people who cannot quit looking.

18. You guys rock!
First thing I thought of when I saw this pic was a Towhee. I have them galore here all summer. I just assumed the color oddities were molting or something. I got back in the book and looked at the wee differences and realized a few that have been in yard were actually Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks.

I keep tryin to snap a picture but the dogs are scaring them off.

I get to add them to my life list now :)

:woohoo:

:yourock:
