lollapalooza
anyone ever been? My 15 year old wants me to accompany her and a friend this year. What can I expect? Where's a cheap place to stay in Chicago? Will I regret this for the rest of my life?

5. I loved Lollapalooza.
If you stay away from the Pit, you'll come home with minimal bruising, but if you get in the Pit like I insisted on doing, :eyes: , expect stitches and bruises and a doctor bill. :eyes:

Other than that, don't get drug tested for at least a month after the concert, because the contact high will be kickass. :P

Have Fun!!!

6. 1992 and 1994, loved both shows, except...
In 92, the main headline was Pearl Jam (regardless of what RHCP wants you to believe). In true Pearl Jam fashion, they went on, like, FIRST. Not last, not close to the end. First. The idiots that planned it had 1 (one) entrance, and the incredibly long line went ballistic when they heard Pearl Jam hit the stage, and they were moving so slowly.

I really wanted to go in 96, as IIRC, it would have been my only chance to see The Ramones. It didn't come to my area.

1992

Main Stage: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam, Lush

Side Stage: Jim Rose Circus, Sharkbait, Archie Bell, Porno for Pyros, Basehead, Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Sweaty Nipples, Arson Garden, Seaweed, Seam, Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E., The Look People, Stone Temple Pilots, Vulgar Boatmen, Truly, Skrew, Tribe, The Authority, Samba Hell, Café Tacuba, Rage Against the Machine

1994

Main Stage: The Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, George Clinton & the P-Funk All Stars, The Breeders, A Tribe Called Quest, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, L7, Boredoms (first half of tour), Green Day (second half)

Side Stage: The Flaming Lips, The Verve, The Boo Radleys, The Frogs (first six dates only), Guided by Voices, Lambchop, Girls Against Boys, Rollerskate Skinny, Palace Songs, Stereolab, Fu-Schnickens, The Pharcyde, Shudder to Think, Luscious Jackson, God Lives Underwater, King Kong, Charlie Hunter Trio, Shonen Knife, Blast Off Country Style, Souls of Mischief, Cypress Hill, The Black Crowes

11. yeah that's going to be tricky
She's going to either gather her allowances or ask her dad to help her pay for her ticket for her B-day gift. Maybe she'll be able to talk him into paying part of the hotel. I don't care if we can't stay close as long as we can take the train and stuff. Possibly her friend's folks will consider paying part of the hotel and my sister has been planning a trip to Chicago to do the next phase of her yoga instructor training so if she's able to do it that weekend... Then the next thing to worry about is paying for food. She's so excited about the idea that I don't want to say no outright. I'm going to try to figure something out and we'll call it her birthday gift (conveniently, her b-day is July 30 so the timing would be perfect)

10. looks like fun--consider drive to waukegan and take metra down
Metra is like dirt cheap and the schedule is much better than the Kenosha station.
Station to grant park is a bit of a walk.
Cab faire was not that bad from grant to the station.
Did that earlier this year.

I have always wanted to go to lollapalooza but never have.
I am soooooooo green.
