1. I must be out of the loop as well
I don't mean it in an ageist way, I think that would be inappropriate even for a bridesmaid dress. Bare shoulders are okay but the corset-type bodice with the lacing is too racy.

2. Hopefully that would be worn with a matching jacket.
Otherwise, that could definitely be too revealing and too sexy to be appropriate.

4. I kinda dig it...
for bridesmaids maybe though...depending on the couple getting married; the sense, style, aesthetic of the rest of the wedding; and the time of day. (I realize it is the rare male who has any thoughts on the matter. I'm not normal.)

Seems reasonable if:

the wedding couple is very-modern, non-traditional and want a fashion-forward, elegant wedding. (On the very off-chance I ever get married, it is one of a handful of things I am insisting upon.* I loathe weddings with cutesy faux-traditionalism, lots of flowery-pastels and beige, lots of matronly-dresses and cheap suits in the audience and hokey sentimentality. (We're not dying, for chrissakes.))

night-time wedding.

it is not going to outshine the bride.

mostly a young crowd.

*- The others, if you care, are: I do not want my mother the control freak involved beyond the minimally-necessary. I do not want to get married in a church. I will not elope because anything worth doing is worth doing right. Vegetarian organic meals at the reception with a clearly-defined and stated vegan option. Groomsmen in kilts. Open bar. I have a preference for B&W photography but I don't think I'll get that one.

3. I can't imagine any mother of a groom or bride being young enough to wear that.
It's a gorgeous dress, but not quite something for the older, unless she is still thin and hot. I mean, I could see Susan Lucci wearing it, but that's about it for anyone over 35 or 40.

10. It's a little undignified
for anyone older than 30. Every time I look at it I hear, "Brandy, you're a fine girl..." running through my head.

I would say it's a bit too hot for a wedding in general. I'd save it for a spicier occasion.

20. Yep - needs young person, and too racy for a wedding. Maybe for a reception, though.

13. Wow. Looks NOTHING like what the Moms wore to our wedding.
Seems a bit "young" for most mothers--but that probably is my old fashioned sensibility talking. (No, it isn't really, that dress is just AWFUL for any women who has a kid old enough to get married.)

Anyhow, I'm thinking that you can wear whatever blows your skirt up but I do suggest that a black edged veil and Jackie O sunglasses are probably not a good thing....

18. It just screams tacky
if you are representing, what a traditional mother means, in a ceremony like a wedding. It says I can compete with the bride for my son. It symbolically says I'm my son's surrogate spouse and you can't take him from me, because my feminine charm out does yours. (I just made that part up) Heck I wish I looked that good. Sorry, I tried to be Sigmund 'Fraud'.

22. I went to a biker wedding once where the mother of the bride wore a minidress
It showed off her tattoos nicely.

The whole gang showed up at the reception for free food. Sadly, that cousin of mine died of an overdose a few years ago.
