Ten most annoying singers
http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/listoftheday/17793/the-ten-most-annoying-singers

Personally I like that Celine Dion made the list.

And that the person composing the list left Bob Dylan off it.

Not sure I agree about Frankie Vallee.

3. That stupid James Blunt song makes me want to poke my eardrums out
And I hear it over and over and over and over and over at work. :banghead:

Interspersed with Rick Astley and Celine Dion, of course. It's no wonder I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

4. Billy Corgan? Are you kidding me?
Ego, yes.

But the man is a genius--lyrically, musically and with the guitar. Listen to "Starla" and get back to me, folks.

Just because he didn't sound just like every other lead singer in rock doesn't mean he wasn't a rock god. Quite the contrary.

That blogger just killed his credibility by including him on the list.

15. Corgan rocks, but I don't like his voice...
...and it hasn't grown on me over the years, to put it mildly. There are singers without conventionally great pipes who I enjoy because they made the most of their limited range (Dylan, Hendrix, Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Cobain, Lee Ranaldo, David Byrne, etc.) Corgan's voice, on the other hand, always seemed to me too thin and reedy-- not an equal to the powerful music and lyrics he created. But yeah, there are dozens of lesser talents I'd have chosen for that list over Billy.

5. I like Celine.
I think she has a wonderful voice.

The rest on that list I can give or take.

10. Our ears are little speakers systems
Some of the speaker systems correct the faults of some singers -- for some of us -- and
some ear speaker systems don't

When I hear Celine all I hear is this tinny whine and post nasal drip

Now Karen Carpenter of The Carpenters - my all time fave

I think Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders sounds a lot like Karen - but very different material of course.

I can't stand to listen to Joni Mitchell's voice. Just cuts right through me, although lots of people tell me she's very good.

14. And Joni's my second favorite
To me, her voice is like warm honey pouring into me.

Staying at a household of musicians one weekend, I left my guitar on the couch in the living room.

Over the next three hours, five different musicians came in, picked up the axe, said "Who the hell tuned this?"

and proceeded to re-tune it. Sometimes only moments after it had been retuned.

(And the strings were not new - which often makes a guitar sound untuned moments after tuning)

Edie Brickell

(there's just something about her voice that just gives me the heebie jeebies.)

7. Hey, I'm almost with ya on that!
It's that song, ..."I know what I know, ya know what I mean!" That song ruined her career in my opinion...now isn't she Mrs. Paul Simon?

16. They didn't get it right....
Michael Bolton should have occupied places 1 through 9, keeping Celine at #10.

17. I agree about Celine and Michael Bolton, though I like his original songs.
I would add Whitney Houston, Shania Twain, Alanis Morrisette, and Norah Jones to the list. Though I like some of the music all of these people have done, a little of them goes a long way.
