The Guitarist Brian May Becomes a Chancellor

Brian May, above, already a rock star and astrophysics scholar, has added a new title: university chancellor. Taking up his position as chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University in England, Mr. May, 60, the guitarist of Queen, accepted the largely honorary post and told an audience of about 500 people, including Cherie Blair, wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, that British science needed more support, Agence France-Presse reported. “It is a rather sorry state of affairs,” Mr. May said. He also spoke about Queen’s forthcoming album, its first in 13 years, and a European tour from September to November. “The long arm of Queen has pulled me back in at the moment,” Mr. May said. “It is a beast.”
