Following this tirade is a picture of the usual heavyset, round-headed young man with his hair shaved, wearing a baseball cap and making some sort of gesture to the camera with his fingers. The next photo shows him partying with the boys.

God, can somebody please send some normal men up this way? I am so screwed.

1. I've said it before: they're in Portland.
Anyone single with half a clue either leaves the state or comes to Portland.

How you holding up?
:hi:

2. I tried to leave the state for a decade!
Ah well; you're probably right. I wish to god I could move down, and be unemployed in Portland instead of unemployed in Bangor. :P

I'm doing pretty well. Yesterday was horrible, had panic attacks, but today I feel peaceful & hope it lasts. How are you, mainegreen?

The Mrs has joined us at the local Y, and is motivating my butt to exercise, so I'm wicked sore lately. The rug rat is back to waking up all night, so no sleep for me.

On the other hand, it's nice to be able to keep the windows open and get fresh air without freezing my but off.

Aren't you training to be a nurse? There's gobs of jobs down here for that. They advertise on the sides of busses for them!

3. Portland sounds like a better place to look.
definitely not that one...

I don't know anyone that is single around here (stuck at home with the kids usually). Not a lot of people here in the 'burg.

At least the weather is improving! If you ever want to come down to the beach (or up, not sure where you're at?) I'll hang out with ya! :)

13. Have you thought about heading west, to the other Portland? Oregon?
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 11:38 AM by Radio_Lady
I know it's a long trip, but lots of people make the decision to look here, and they are finding work.

Audio Al and I would be willing to help you if you ever decide to come here.

We found jobs here in September 1997 and moved in April 1998.

It's worked out well for us, but of course, you may have a different experience.

Peace, love and happiness,

Radio Lady Ellen Kimball in Portland, Oregon (formerly Florida, New York City, and Boston, Massachusetts resident)

15. Yep. It was utterly annoying to read that,
and when I got to the "I'm looking for someone" part, I thought, "I would never date anyone who can't capitalize properly, doesn't use apostrophes, and who uses an ellipsis as a period substitute."

x(

Idiot.

8. From that description, I'd steer clear of "Jerry"
Lived two minutes from Boston... that's Eastie or Chelsea or Slummerville....tipping cows in the Kennebunk area....not likely....for that matter, thinking Kennebunk is country is bizarre....sounds like Jerry is really "My Cousin Vinny...."... Vinny prolly thinks that he needs to buy a pair of overalls for his big dates up in hayseed Bangor....sounds like he's a real keeper...

:+

22. I'm just a luddite, I guess.
I cannot imagine ever contacting someone who posted personal ad. I cannot imagine ever posting a personal ad. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but there is no way I could even write one for myself. The whole thing seems sort of painful, you know?

I suppose I'd rather not be with someone if this is how I'm supposed to do it.... there's simply no way I could "cold call" a person in such a situation. I hope there are stories of ppl who have and have been happy with the result, but I will never be one of those people.

In real life I can be very reserved until I know someone.... which may sound odd, considering, but it's true.

I guess my take on this is just my version of real life, magnified by internets to the nth power. Or maybe my take is a result of looking at such personals and thinking there is no way in hell I would ever want to meet anyone in that way, considering the ads placed?
