Gift idea for departing employee
My valued assistant of many years is departing for a new career. I can spend up to $150 on a token of my company's appreciation for her great work.

I'm asking her friends for ideas, but thought I'd toss it out here as well for suggestions.

What would you like to receive if you were her?

2. Thanks. That's a bit more ephemeral than I need, but I did ask what you would want.

3. I'll second the gift card ...
She can get what she wants. It's way better than a clock with the company logo.

4. Get her something personal - if she's into a particular band, perhaps,
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 11:46 AM by Rabrrrrrr
you can find a signed copy of an album or a rare edition.

Or if she's big on an artist or performer, a signed something or other.

Or if she's really big on chocolate, get her some extraordinarily expensive stuff.

Or if she's big on scotch, get her a $150 bottle of that.

and so forth.

And when you give her the gift, say "I know you are a big fan of (whatever), and while you were as an employee, you were also here as a person that I have come to know and ot enjoy, so I give you this parting gift of (whatever) to show that we not only appreciate the work you did for us, but also your presence as (whatever her name is)."

Something like that.

Or, give her something that would be appropriate in her new career, to show that you are supportive of her move and while you will miss her, you do hope she is successful and does well.

That's what I would want - something that shows that the people actually knew me as who I am, and not just as a worker guy.

9. She is a strong, active Dem. That would be funny, since the big
bosses are all Republicans.

10. A CD or something that shows that her coworkers know her and cared enough to buy something
rather than just dumping money onto a card, which is the gift equivalent of "whatever." On the other hand, a gift card in addition to a personalized gift is a nice gesture.

The best parting gift that I've received from coworkers was a museum membership. It was in part related to my interests and in part a joke because they knew that I'd have time on my hands in my new part time job.
