I am beginning to think I won't be able to graduate in August either.
I finally got a draft of my thesis into my professors in March and it took them almost a month to get it back to me. Now I have many changes to make in order to send in a second draft (which hopefully will be much better than the first) but that delay has put me in serious jeopardy of not graduating in August. I am out of time! After August, I will have used up my entire 7 years allowed! And my classes might not count. I am so fucking ready for this to be done. I just don't give shit anymore.

I have one almost one month exactly to set up my thesis defense (which has to be done by June 13 to graduate in August). But the paperwork has to be in earlier and the thesis has to be nearly ready to be uploaded.

I have a fulltime job with weird hours that keeps me from working on it at all some days. Fuck this shit. Just fuck it all to hell.

3. other side of the coin....
I've gotten four theses in the last month along with a couple of initial proposals. I could have read theses and proposals ALL FREAKING YEAR but students ALWAYS take months to complete their work and wait until the last possible weeks of spring semester before submitting it, then complain when I can't turn it around in a few days. If I took as long to read it as they took to produce it we'd BOTH have something to moan about!

4. I know they have other things to do.
I have really tried to get moving on this. But I only have so much free time. I am NOT allowed to work on it at work, even though it is based on data we have collected at my job. I can't figured THAT out. I'd have been much further along if I had been allowed to work on it there. And my shitty work hours do not help. 14 hour days are not conducive to doing much else. I don't see how I could do more than I am doing right now.

5. chill....
The point I was trying to make is that we all work under a cycle of stress that we largely reinforce for one another. This too shall pass, or as I tell my students, one day you'll look back on all this and it will still suck.

7. That's true
But every time I have a question on something, I get back an answer that I do not understand at all. Or I have to do MORE work when I just want to be done. There's been a lot of "mission creep" and that's partly why it never seems to end.

6. YOU WILL BE OK!
Explain this to all the profs on your committee.

Don't even look at DU until you've given them the second drafts...it may look like a lot of edits you have to make, but it's probably not that bad, once you get started. Get a copy to each of them.

Tell your advisor on your committee (comm. chair) exactly what is going on. Ask for help in coordinating the dates...

Go ahead and set up the date for your thesis defense...that will be your deadline, and will give you something firm to work toward.

Then buy a lot of coffee and work all night if you have to. I spent three weeks with little--and I mean no more than three or four hours at a time--sleep until I handed mine to all my committee profs.

If you can take a day or two off, do it! Whatever it takes...

I know you can do it!

8. Fuck it. I am going to quit.
I don't need this shit anymore. I am done. Fuck my professor who only seem to add more stuff every time I ask them something. I have had enough of this shit.
