Cat in North Brandord not budging from tree perch

NORTH BRANFORD (AP) - A cat has been stuck more than 50 feet high in a tree in North Branford since Saturday, catching the attention of animal-lovers and would-be rescuers.
But the cat doesn't belong to the property owner, who initially was hesitant to let anyone go up the tree because of liability concerns. And the town's fire department doesn't rescue cats.

One man, who signed a liability waiver, used his bucket truck Thursday to try and rescue the cat. But the animal climbed a little higher and was out of reach. A tree trimmer scaled the tree using spikes but the cat eluded his grasp as well.

Cheryl DeFilippo, the president of the Greater New Haven Cat Project, says her organization would help with veterinary care and find it a home if it is a stray.

SPCA officials say cats can survive a few days without food or water but would likely need veterinary care after that.

..snip

My god, why don't they just open a can of tuna or turn a can opener on! The cat will come running.
